    3. Mt. Storm, WV - The body of Staff Sgt. James Endler Junkins, 29, who was killed in action May 4, 1945, on Okinawa, will arrive in Blaine Saturday morning and be taken to the Sharpless Funeral Home. Born December 25, 1915, in Emoryville, he was the son of Mrs. Zoe (Endler) Junkins and the late George Daniel Junkins. Sgt. Junkins entered the service Sept 15, 1941 and received his basic training at Camp Walters, Texas. he went overseas in April 1842. Prior to entering the service he engaged in farming. Besides his mother, he is survived by a brother and sister, Harold and Thelma E. Junkins, both at home. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Mount Storm Methodist Church, Rev. James E. Hodges, pastor, will officiate. He will be assisted by Rev. Jonathan Edwards, Kitzmiller Presbyterian minister and former Army chaplain. Burial will be in Hartmansville Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Petersburg. Cumberland Evening Times March 17, 1949 Gormania, WV- Mrs. Zoe Junkins, 92, of here, died today at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland. A native of Bismark, WV, she was a daughter of the late James H. and Mollie E. (Hilkey) Endler. Her husband, George D. Junkins, preceded her in death. Mrs. Junkins was a member of the Mt. Storm United Methodist Church and a life member of the Petersburg American Legion Auxiliary. Surviving are one daughter, Miss Thelma Junkins, here; one son, Harold Junkins, Mt. Storm; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Wilson and Mrs. Marion Wilkins, both of here; one grandson and two great grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Minnich-Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. Services will be conducted at the Mt. Junkins, died last night in Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, where she had been admitted Monday with a fractured hip suffered in a fall at the home of daughter, Mrs. Elsie Shillingburg, Potomac Manor. Born at Oakland, MD, a daughter of the late John G. and Sally (Thompson) Spiker, she had resided in Emoryville prior to going to reside with her daughter about six years ago. Surviving, besides Mrs. Shillingburg, are three sons, Albert and Wilson Junkins, both of Emoryville, and John Junkins, Potomac Manor; a sister, Mrs. Ella Echard, Oakland, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.     3. I found a full obituary for Ellen with the names of her children. Mrs. Ellen Frazee, widow of Kimmel Frazee, of Selbysport, MD died at 7 o'clock Thursday morning at the home of a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bailey Liston, of Confluence, with whom she had be visiting. Death was due to infirmities of age. Mrs. Frazee was a lifelong resident of Selbysport, and was well known in that community. Her maiden name was "Green". Surviving children are: Mrs. Hugh Gallagher, Toledo, OH; Martin Frazee, Selbysport; B. H. Frazee, Connellsville; Mrs. Bailey Liston, Confluence; and a son, Orval Frazee, at home. Three sisters, Mrs. Perry Broadwater, Bittinger, MD; Mrs. Nan Griffith, Listonsburg, and Mrs. Amanda Liston, Selbysport, also survive. Her husband died in January 1936. A son, M. E. Frazee of Poplar Grove and a daughter, Mrs. Roy Lowdermilk, of Cumberland, MD, also preceded her in death. Gonder, who died Saturday at the City Hospital, Frederick, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Frederick, took place Tuesday from St. Peter's Catholic Church, Oakland. She was a daughter of the late William Casteel, a Garrett County pioneer. Surviving her are four sons, Andrew, Thomas, Francis and Bernard Gonder, all business men of Oakland, and two daughters, Miss Jean Gonder and Mrs. Anna Dixon. Trueman [sic] Casteel and Mrs. Mary Glanders, of Oakland, two of the part, are at the hospital as a result of the accident. News (Frederick, MD) Aug 12, 1922 Landmark Near Oakland Destroyed Oakland, MD- May 21-Fire Saturday night destroyed an old landmark, the home of Stephen Casteel, a farmer, three miles north of Oakland. The fire is thought to have originated from a lamp in a bedroom. The house built by Peter Brant, a pioneer, 75 years ago, who was know as one of the best stonebreakers on the National Highway between Baltimore and Wheeling. A great chimney, 30 feet tall, is all that remains of the old house.     3. Mariah J. Casteel, wife of Franklin B. Casteel, and daughter of Cornelius W. and Mary A. Savage, departed this life March 7th, 1879, aged 27 years, 7 months and 26 days. For many years she was a member of the M. E. Church, of which she lived a faithful member until death, "departing in peace". March 15, 1879 The Republican The funeral sermon of Mr. Meshack Casteel was preached in the Methodist Church, Monday at 11 a.m. by Rev. H. E. Friend, after which the remains were interred in the Casteel cemetery on the old Casteel farm. He was born in the year 1816, and was therefore 87 years old. This aged gentleman was loved and very much respected by everyone who knew him, and possessed many noble qualities. He has been a faithful member of the M. E. Church for a number of years. One son survives him. The pall bearers were, Rev. D. F. Friend, Messrs. Jeremiah and Allen Enlow, George Bishoff, A. C. DeWitt and Meshack Mattingly. Casteel, aged 1 year, 3 months and 5 days. he was an interesting child and was beloved by all who knew him. From the time he was taken ill until his death he suffered constant pain, but in all his suffering he never wept. His parents mourn the loss of their little one, but our loss is his gain. Aug 4, 1877 The Republican Death of a Good Woman Sarah Casteel, wife of Nathan Casteel, was born in Allegany County, MD, March 21st, 1819, and departed this life June 18th, 1887, age 67 years, 9 months, 3 days. She was converted and joined the M. E. Church at about the age of 17, and lived a member of the Church for 50 years. One of the marked characteristics of her nature was that whatever she undertook she threw her whole life into it, and this was especially true of her religion, and her fidelity to her Master's cause did not abate in age, an din her last illness the expressed longings of her soul were "Nearer, My God, to Thee." Nor could she be satisfied until her heart was filled with His love. Her longings were not in vain. The blessings came and she was not only enabled to rejoice, but cheerfully gave up the things she had loved and rejoiced in hope of eternal life. Her end was peace. She leaves a husband and son and many friends to mourn her loss. May they all meet again in the land of eternal joy. W.J.S. June 25, 1887 The Republican

DEATH OF EX-SHERIFF CASTEEL The Demise Occurred Last Friday of Typhoid Fever Ex-Sheriff Edward Nathan Casteel, son of the late Meshech Casteel, of near Hoyes, this county, died at his home last Friday afternoon at one o'clock of typhoid fever after an illness of four weeks. The deceased was 44 years of age and was born in Garrett County. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and was buried Sunday on the Truman W. Casteel farm near Sang Run after services were conducted by Rev. Henry E. Friend. The deceased married a number of years ago Miss Ella, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Savage, to which union ten children were born, eight of whom with the mother survive. Mr. Casteel was Deputy Sheriff under ex-sheriff E. E. Sollars and succeeded him in that office for a term of two years. After his retirement from his duties he removed to his farm in District No. 6 and resumed agricultural pursuits which he followed until the date of his last illness. Browning, 83, who died Sunday at his home in Sang Run, were conducted from St. Peter's Catholic Church, here yesterday, by Rev. W. F. Sauer, pastor. Mr. Bowman [sic] was a son of the late William and Ann DeWitt Browning, and a grandson of Meshack Browning, one of the pioneer settlers of Garrett County and author of 44 years of the life of a hunter. He was married to Annie E. Fazenbaker in 1880, who preceded him in death 30 years ago. To this union were born eleven children, seven of whom survive, namely G. W. and Edward M., of West Leisenring, PA; Mrs. John Hoffman and Mrs. S. B. Litman, Uniontown, PA; Mrs. A. C. Englehart, Meyersdale, PA; Mrs. M. L. Savage, Sang Run, and J. Frank Browning, of Oakland; also 32 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Cumberland Evening Times - May 18, 1939 [Excerpts] Oakland- Mrs. Carrie G. Shipley, 78, of Oakland Dr., Mt. Lake Park, died yesterday at Garrett County Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient two days. Born in Blooming Rose, she was a daughter of the late Archibald and Margaret (Sterling) Casteel and was the widow of Clyde W. Shipley who died in 1965. She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, Mt. Lake Park, Oakland Chapter 67, OES, and Senior Citizens Club. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Turney, and Mrs. Viola Losey, a son, Reid Shipley, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. The body is at the Minnich-Stewart Funeral Home. A service will be conducted there tomorrow at 2 p.m. with Rev. James F. Remley officiating. Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery. Cumberland News - July 1, 1972 Mrs. Lulu Ellen Casteel Friend, wife of George E. Friend, Friendsville, died suddenly at her home Sunday evening at 8 o'clock of a heart attack. Mrs. Friend was a daughter of Taze and Margaret Sterling Casteel and was born May 20, 1887. She was aged 51 years, 11 months and 25 days. Her marriage with George E. Friend took place on July 29, 1916, and to this union two children were born, George Donald and John Eugene. Besides her husband and two sons she is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Valeria Grove and Mrs. A. C. Griffin, of Baltimore; Mrs. Harry Frazee, of Bergoo, WV, and Mrs. Clyde W. Shipley, of Mountain Lake Park. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday morning at ten o'clock at the home, Rev. R. L. Greynolds, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Glenn Frazee, of Friendsville; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Huff, Friendsville; three brothers, Floyd Fearer, of here, and Lester and Ernest Fearer, both of Williamsport, MD; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Services were held today and interment was in Asher Glade Cemetery here. Cumberland Evening Times May 3, 1961 Westernport, MD April 24-Frank Fearer, 51, formerly of here a missionary of the Pentecostal Church and a farmer, died yesterday afternoon at the hospital at Somerset, PA from injuries received in an automobile accident Tuesday night. He and his family were returning to his home in Somerfield, PA after attending church services at Somerset and his automobile overturned on Summit Mountain. He never regained consciousness. Other members of the family returned home after being treated at the hospital.
