    1. [MDGARRET] Warnick question
    2. Pat Thompson
    3. Can someone help me with this? Several years ago I entered information for Elizabeth Fazenbaker Warnick noting she died in 1868 6. JOSEPH2 WARNICK, JR. (JOSEPH1) was born Abt. 1796, and died 17 Feb 1867. He married ELIZABETH FAZENBAKER 10 Oct 1815, daughter of GEORGE FAZENBAKER and ELIZABETH ?. She was born Abt. 1793, and died 24 Apr 1868. While working on this file again today, I noticed I had found this census report (below) Living two doors from Silas in Westernport, MD Allegany Co. 1870 Eliza Warnick, 77, (1793) keeping house, $1500/$250 b. MD Joseph, 36, laborer, b. MD Winifred, Crow, 12, b. MD Elizabeth Crow, 10 b. MD Is Eliza Warnick, age 77 years in 1870 census, the same as Elizabeth Fazenbaker Warnick, wife of Joseph Warnick and do I have an incorrect date of death listed for Elizabeth? Many thanks, Pat

    1. Re: [MDGARRET] Matthews-Warnick
    2. Walt Warnick
    3. Thanks go to Pat Thompson for these articles. It is highly probably that the Franklin Warnick named in the Matthew-Warnick article was my Uncle Franklin W. Warnick (4/21/1915-10/1/1995), son of William Clay Warnick and Julia Ellen (Lee). When the article was published in 1927, the family lived on the second floor of a townhouse on Maryland Avenue in Westernport. The townhouse was owned by the paper mill where William worked. Pat asked about the family of George Warnick, late husband of Rachel Alice Warnick. George Samuel Warnick was born 10/5/1859, son of Silas Warnick and Martha (Fazenbaker). George married Rachel Alice Layton who was born 8/25/1858. George lost an arm in a sawmill accident when he was about 22. A story passed down through his descendants is that George developed great strength in the remaining arm. Long after the accident, he once killed a bear using only a pine knot. George and his family were living at the Elbow at the time of the 1900 census. He was one of three trustees for the tiny Piney Run public school for the school year 1903-1904. George died 8/3/1934. Rachel died 6/16/1950. Children of George and Rachel: 1 Elzaida Gertrude (born 8/14/1878), 2 George Richard "Richard" (born 2/7/1882), 3 J. William "Willie" (born 1/20/1884), 4 Lester Vance (born 4/3/1883), 5 M. Jeanette(or Janet Maggie) (born 5/4/1888), 6 Lula (or Lulu) Edith (born 1/11/1890), 7 Effa Florence "Effie" (born 12/16/1892), 8 Howard Stanley "Stanley" (born 4/5/1894), 9 Blanche Mae (born 7/11/1896), 10 Clarence Wilmer (born 9/18/1898), and 11 Stella (born 6/21/1901). Walt Warnick -----Original Message----- From: mdgarret-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdgarret-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Pat Thompson Sent: Sunday, January 03, 2010 2:14 PM To: mdgarret@rootsweb.com Subject: [MDGARRET] Matthews-Warnick Charles Matthews Goes Under When Boat Capsize While Companion Reaches Shore Westernport, Oct. 31- Charles Matthews, 11 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Matthews, Maryland Ave., Westernport, was drowned in the Potomac River, opposite old Potomac baseball park this morning about 8 o'clock, when a boat occupied by him and Franklin Warnick, another youth capsized. Warnick swam to the shore and Matthews proceeded to swim up stream toward a boat which Richard Bennett was rowing. This was about 30 feet away and after the Matthews youth proceeded a short distance, he turned back in his excitement and went under. From the point where his boat capsized he could have made either the short or the other boat had he swam straight toward one or the other. The shore was only 25 feet away. Men, occupying three boats, dragged the river and about noon the body was recovered. Besides his parents the youth is survived by one brother, Ernest, and two sisters, Marian and Hazel. He attended Bruce High School. Cumberland Evening Times Oct 31, 1927 Truman Warnick, 70, Cleveland, Ohio, died yesterday afternoon at Allegany Hospital, where he was a patient since April 10. He came here several months ago and had been living with a nephew, Arvel M. Jeffreys, Charles St. Born in Bloomington, he was a son of the late Henry and Mahala (Junkins) Warnick. Mr. Warnick was a retired employee of the Street Railway Company of Cleveland and a former barber. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity. Surviving are two brothers, Edward Warnick, Bloomington, and George Warnick, Oakland; two sisters, Ida Duckworth, Firm Rock, and Mrs. Gertrude Jeffreys, Altamont; another nephew, Charles Warnick, Cumberland, and other nieces and nephews. The body was taken to a funeral home in Oakland. Cumberland Evening Times April 19, 1940 Franklin-Mrs. Rachel Alice Warnick, 91, wife of the late George Warnick, died early this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Benjamin Wilt, near here. Mrs. Warnick had been in ill health for three years. A native of Garrett County, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Eille Layton, and resided in this area all her life. She was a member of New Germany Methodist Church, where she had at one time resided for twenty years. Besides Mrs. Wilt, she is survived by four other daughters, Mrs. Fred Pritts, Westernport; Mrs. Lawrence Broadwater and Mrs. Paul Colmer, both of Garrett County, and Mrs. Effie Raley, Grantsville; four sons, Stanley, of Garrett County; Clarence, New Germany; Lester, of Westernport, and Richard, of Akron and 50 grandchildren.
