I've been looking thru the 1790 Frederick Co., Md., census and noticed the name Tallhill. This particular page has very imaginative spellings for the surnames ; ). Thought it might be the name being searched? Copied and pasted this for you.------- =;o) Carolyn http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/md/frederick/census/1790/page252.txt 4174 Tallhill Henry 1 3 1 Lots of Hill surnames, also.
The description reads: This is a great postcard from Garrett County, Maryland. It is a colorful chrome card showing a view on Highway 50. You are looking at Backbone Mountain Inn and this is the highest point on U.S. 50 east of the Rocky Mountains. You can see that they have a restaurant and a gift shop and it is owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Harold a Upole. Have you ever stopped here while on vacation and purchased some of the fantastic maple syrup to take home? It has never been mailed so the condition of this post card is good. If you collect Garrett County history, this is one that you will want to add to your collection. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2185286545&category=20214

Hi Pat, A bit more on the Rebecca R. Friend (b:Oct.17.1806 d: May.1882, d/o Elizabeth Ward & John Lewis Friend Jr.) of the Sang Run area who married John Johnson. Her husband John died rather young (45 yr. old) from what used to be called "galloping consumption", leaving Rebecca alone to raise their two children: a daughter Luvinia Elizabeth Johnson (1839 ~1926) and son Hilary Johnson (b: abt.1843). Rebecca never remarried. Luvinia married Amos Wesley Friend (s/o James Friend & Rebecca Willison) and had three children that I know of:: (1) Rachel Emma (Jan.1859 ~Apr.19.1860), (2) Smith McClellan (Jun.06.1862 ~ Jan.10.1953, who married Adelia "Delia" Alice Friend, d/o Sarah Ann VanSickle & Joshua Monroe Friend) and (3) Mary Cornelia (Dec.09.1863, who married Elijah Hoye). I don't think Hilary ever married, at least I haven't found a wife and family for him yet. In the 1880 census 73 yr. old Rebecca and 37 yr. old Hilary are found living in Amos and Luvinia's Sang Run household. All I know about John Johnson right now is what's in Indian Blood. I still suspect that John was a brother or close kin to William Johnson of Sang Run, the father-in-law of Henry Friend of N. ------------ The only "Rebecca Jane Friend" I have on file right now that MIGHT fit the one in question (the one that married James O. Tuhill), was born Jan. 1863, BUT...she is one of the Braxton Co. WV line of Friends. She is the eldest d/o Barbara Ann Hall & Jonas Bluford Friend (s/o Sarah Butler & Jonas B. Friend, s/o Elizabeth Skidmore & Jacob Friend). I find this Rebecca, at age 17, in the 1880 census living with her family in Otter, Braxton, WV. Unfortunately I have no additional info on this Rebecca yet, such as marital, death date/place, etc. or anything that would place her in Garrett Co. at a later time. Sorry, just haven't done that much work on this line yet. Of course....if her mother/step-mother Barbara Ann HALL is any relation to our Garrett Co. Kenneth Finzel is in the northeastern corner of Garrett County. At one time Johnson community was in District 9 near Finzel. I do not know if it was ever an election district. It is not on my current map, but there was a school at Johnson until sometime in the 1950s. Elbow is an Election District (No. 11) located between Finzel District (No. 9) and Bloomington District (No. 4). (District numbers are not in order on the map.) Both Finzel and Elbow Districts border Allegany County. The Garrett County Historical Society is in downtown Oakland. If you go the Town Restaurant for breakfast (on Route 219 and Alder Street) walk down the hill on Alder Street, make a right and the Historical Society is about a half block down on your left. It has a huge flower pot in front of it. Do go to the Town Restaurant and get the gravy and biscuits or an omelet.
