    1. Re: [MDGARRET] Rebecca Friend
    2. Pat Thompson
    3. I found a Rebecca Friend in the 1870 Missouri, Scott Co Census. --------- Bonnie, I need to find a Rebecca Friend who was born about 1862. Somehow, later, she is said to be the daughter of Henry Haskell. Henry married twice, (1) Lizzie SHAFFER (2) Mary Elizabeth Spence. Rebecca must have been the daughter of Lizzie Shaffer and Lizzie must have married a Friend, prior to her marriage to Henry Haskell. Rebecca was known to her descendants as Rebecca Friend (as shown in the bio for her husband James Tuhill) but they can't find her connection to a Friend family. I am trying to help them find Rebecca's parents. Henry Haskell is in the 1880 Garrett County MD census (age 60) and he is married to Elizabeth. There is a Rebecca listed in his HH (age 18) but there is also a Rebecca Haskill (age 18) listed as working for George W. Legge, in Oakland. I think Rebecca was counted twice, once in the Legge HH and then her parents gave her information when their HH was counted. There is a four year gap between Rebecca and the next child in the family (Charles Haskill) but after Charles the children are like stair steps, so I am wondering if it wasn't during those four years (1862 to 1866) that Henry's first wife must have died and Henry remarried? Thanks for the look-ups Bonnie, hopefully we can solve this puzzle. Pat-T

Nancy had a sister she left behind in Germany--her name was Margarethe UPHOLD EISNER. It appears that most of the aunts and uncles lived in the city of Schwabach, Germany. Conrad's homeplace was Zielbach, Germany, but it is believed he immigrated from Hesse-Darmstadt. HETRICKs were originally from Saxony, but immigrated to Langenselbold before coming to America. Conrad's mother m. a Jacob EISFELLER/ICEFELLER. They were in the 1870 Grantsville Census. Katherina (Catherine) was 62 (from Hesse-Darmstadt) in the census; Jacob was 66. It is believed Conrad and Nancy came to America on their honeymoon. Their first child, Charles Conrad HETRICK was born in 1860 in MD.

    3. Pat, Can you give me any information on W. Scott Garner, who wrote the book? I thik he is descended from William Garner, and possibly Samuel Garner, my gggrandfather. Did I ever tell you that there used to be a tunnel for the railroad at Rodamer, near Terra Alta, for which my grandfather, Simon P.Wright was supervisor? The tunnel no longer exists, but the man who has my grandfather's house there will show the place to me if I can get back up there in nice weather. A lot of railroad workers (many Irish) lived nearby at that time, and my grandfather also kept a store, had the postal franchise and farmed. His first wife died in childbirth in 1905, leaving him with 5 children under the age of 10. 15 months later he married my grandmother, who gave him 6 more children. The family had moved to Glade Farms in the northern part of the county by the time my father was born in 1914. I hope you are havin a lovely summer! Delores

    3. Pat, Did you see this note at the tail end in my earlier post? .................................. "......The only "Rebecca Jane Friend" I have on file right now that MIGHT fit the one in question (the one that married James O. Tuhill), was born Jan. 1863, BUT...she is one of the Braxton Co. WV line of Friends. She is the eldest d/o Barbara Ann Hall & Jonas Bluford Friend (s/o Sarah Butler & Jonas B. Friend, s/o Elizabeth Skidmore & Jacob Friend). I find this Rebecca, at age 17, in the 1880 census living with her family in Otter, Braxton, WV. Unfortunately I have no additional info on this Rebecca yet, such as marital, death date/place, etc. or anything that would place her in Garrett Co. at a later time. Sorry, just haven't done that much work on this line yet. Of course....if her mother/step-mother Barbara Ann HALL is any relation to our Garrett Co. Prudence HALL and Charles Friend Sr. however, that would be a link. Hmmm? Bye for now, Kathleen ============= 1880 census: Jonas B. FRIEND Self M Male W 52 VA Farmer Barbra A. 3. Hi there! While we're on Upole/Uphold.... Does anyone have anything on: Gussie Rosetta (Upole) Sines, d/o Fanny Schaeffer & Richard Upole of Garrett Co.? Gussie is the second wife of Perry Harrison Sines (1894 ~ 1976, s/o Harriet Jeanette Mankis & Rev. Henry Beryle Sines Jr.) While I have the names/dates for Gussie & Perry's eight children, I have no additional data for Gussie, other than she might be buried in the Taylor Sines Cemetery. Thanks! Bye for now, Kathleen
