Hi! I never knew I was German, until I started doing Garrett/Allegany/Somerset PA genealogy, but yep! Hoover, Ruckle, Stark, Railey/Raley. Beverly
Sure! I was hoping we were related... Beverly
What is the surname you are looking for in Ireland? If it's German, check into the Irish Palatine information, especially in County Limerick. I can give you a hand, if it's German. Beverly
Are you German, Beverly? Maybe you are related to my husband!! HA!! Both sides of his family are German. Thanks for the info on this book, Carol, guess I will go ahead and get it. It's real cheap anyway for a used one. Less than $5.00. Do you have any suggestions for finding family in Ireland? I will try this website that you passed on to me. We went there in June but with nothing besides my GGGrandparents names, it was hopeless finding records. All the records I have sent for just has that they were from Ireland. Hi Helen, I used this book often (at my FHC) when I was first starting my research overseas. It is a good reference book and will tell you how to get started, where to write, etc. Another good place to go on the web is: http://www.irelandgenweb.org (WorldGenWeb for Ireland) http://www.englandgenweb.org (same) and then http://www.genuki.co.uk (England based research project, notably the best, covers the British Isles and Ireland) -- Best Wishes, Carol Hepburn chepburn@cox.net Phoenix, AZ USA "Warm and sunny, as usual!"
Hi Connie, that's what I had heard. That's really a shame about the records. I do have a fair amount of information on Henry Ruckle's line in Ireland and before that Germany. Much of the Ruckle history is recorded due to his tie to Barbara Ruckle Heck, a founder of American Methodism. Beverly
One of his sons was the earliest > burial in the cemetery. I would love to see the records for this church My husband was one of the most recent burials in the Bittinger Cemetery. Now, the cemetery does not belong to the church. And your chances of ever seeing the records of the church I've been going to for the past 14 years, are slim to none. Connie
Hi everyone! What would be a good book to find ancestors from Ireland? Does anyone know if the book "In search of your British and Irish Roots", by Angus Baxter, is any good? Or does it just tell you how to go about searching? Thanks, Helen Rehm
Hi Connie, yes this is the Henry Ruckle m. Kitty Stark whose daughter, Mary Ann Ruckle married Simon "Sam" Raley. Mary Ann would be my gg grandmother. I have the Bittinger Book info, some deeds for her, and some anecdotes. Henry donated land for the Lutheran Church. One of his sons was the earliest burial in the cemetery. I would love to see the records for this church. Simon lived 1819-1860, but I am clueless as to his parents. Three of his kids have Germany as birthplace of father on their death certificates and the census shows him to have been German born. This makes sense, as the Ruckles were Irish Palatines. I just found an email from August 1998 received from Tim Ruckle truckle@erols.com >From the IGI (International Genealogical Index - LDS FHC files George RUCKLE m Elizabeth Stark in Allegany County 1857. They were living in that part of the county which is now Garrett County. George Ruckle's mother was a Catherine Stark who married Henry Ruckle, Sr. on 23 Apr 1813. Catherine was born in 1794 and died before 1856. And then there's this from Hoyes "Pioneer Families of Garrett Couinty, MD," page 354 - Henry and Catherine Ruckle deeded to Peter Lohr military lots 2409-2410-2411-2412. These were granted by the state to General Wm. Smallwood of the Maryland Line for services as a soldier during the Revolutionary War. The heirs of Gen. Smallwood..names them...all of Greenup County KY had transferred the land to John B. Armstead and in 1832 he deeded it to Henry Ruckle who may have resided there before he sold out to Peter LOHR. I am the gt. grandson of Isaac T. Fitzwater and Amelia Garlitz. I am trying to find the parents of Amelia Garlitz. I have the marriage lic. of Isaac and Amelia from Alutuas County, Idaho, November 12,1885 and it said she was from Franklin County Ohio. I have her death certf ,born Feb. 14,1859 in Maryland, father Jacob Garlitz born in Pa., mother Liddie Griffith born Pa. Amelia died January 12,1916 in Mountain Home, Idaho I found her in the 1880 census,Mahoning County, Lowellville Polana Twp.(Youngtown area) she was enumarated twice, 3 days apart. one was scarched out. Amelia Garlitz, 23, housekeeper, born Md. parents born Md. Md,. She must have moved from house to house as a housekeeper. She also had a brother, Allen Garlitz that married Margaret Susan Fitzwater, sister to Isaac. Jacob of Henry and Magdelina was probably to old for a child born in 1859. Their son, Jacob Jr. is a good candidate, but he married Sarah Miller in 1855. Unless he remarried before Apr. 1854 he is out. As I see it, all other Jacob's of the Pa. and Md. area are to old or to young. Can you help,Thanks, Les

Does anyone have proof that Peter DELLENBACH actually went to Somerset Co., PA from Dauphin Co.,PA? An article in the Mennonite Family History, dated January 1990 written by John B. BLYER, I quote. Resurveyed (on the 5th day of October 1796) for Jacob Graybill Administrator to the estate of Peter DELLENBAUGH decd. of the above described of 372 acres one quarter & Allowce of 6 P Ct. Situate in Londonderry Township, Dauphin County (late Lancaster & Returned By Virtue of a Special order the Board of Property Bearing date the 16th December 1796* *directing a resurvey to be made and returned in pursuance of a warrant granted to Valentine DELLENBAUGH dated 30th Jan. 1752. This article also states: Peter likely died in 1795, the year his will was probated in Londonderry Township(but is unavailable). In 1796 the widow (name unknown) appears on the tax lists. On April 5, 1797, his administrator and son-in-law Jacob Krebill settled Peter's estate. Footnote states: Dauphin Co., PA, Courthouse Mortgage Book E-1, pp. 155-156, Peter DELABACH. Unquote. I know I have read in some genealogies that he went to Somerset County, PA but I have never found any proof of that. Sam and Pat . . . Thanks so much for putting this information up. I also noted the "DELLENBACH" surname again. Barbara DELLENBACH, sister to John Hershburger's wife Veronica "Franey" DELLENBACH, my 4th g-grandparents--Their son Peter HERSHBERGER and wife Anna BEACHY are my 3rd g-grandparents. Barbara DELLENBACH m. John Fike (Carolyn SHUPE's 6th g-grandparents). Carolyn also furnised the information on Elk Lick at that time that talked about John Fike having built the first gristmill in the township on the Casselman River, a mile northeast of Salisbury, PA (Elk Lick) . . . and Joseph Markley operated the first distillery, abt 1790. We also have Nicholas Mosser m. to Magdalena DELLENBACH (dau of Peter DELLENBACH). Per Carolyn SHUPE, she read that Peter DELLENBACH came to Somerset Co., PA from Dauphin Co., PA. Carolyn also suspects that Barbara's birth was abt 1750 as her first child was born Jan 1774. I've noticed many child brides in our history. That being the case, Barbara could have been as young as 14 when she had her first child (birth year would have been 1760 in that case). Sam, I believe Jonas Musser/Mosser is correct. Jonas was son of John Musser/Mosser & Elizabeth Maust Mosser. They also had a daughter Catherine who married Samuel Faulk. John Mosser was son of Nicholas Mosser d. abt 1829 m; Magdalena Dellenbach Mosser. They resided at Selbeysport, MD. Elizabeth Maust Mosser d. ca 1812. John Mosser then married Susannah Frankhouser (my gg-grandparents). Around 1833 they relocated to Brandonville area of Preston Co. WV. There Susanna & John Musser/Mosser had 12 children, Rebecca, Annie, Sarah, Henry, Joseph, Susannah, Mary, John, Jacob, Elizabeth, **Daniel, Samuel. Daniel is my line who m; Elizabeth Frances Frederick. Guess that is more info than you wanted. But perhaps you or someone may have additional information of any of the above. Be happy to hear from anyone interested. Take Care Pat Hook ----- Original Message ----- From: "Samuel J.
