See that's my problem, I know my Great Uncle Charles was trying to find out for 70 years how his mother was related to the Friends as they all said she was from the Friendsville Friends. I know French Canadian ancestors back to some who sailed with Champlain in the 1630s and I can't figure out who my ggm's family were. I have made a lot more progress in the last year than my Great Uncle did but mostly from the stories he told me over the years being based in fact. He 14 months ago at 99 3/4. He was 3 when his mother died in 1906. I just wish he was around now so I could tell him I found 2 of his cousins in Tunnelton and had coconut cake and coffee on their porch this summer, and now I am sharing stories with another cousin in Oklahoma about his Aunt who lived 2 doors away in Tunnelton in 1910. In the next couple weeks though I have 3 wills and 3 civil war pension files coming in that could tell a lot, nothing, or just that one little clue that unravels everything. I am rea! lly having fun with all the nice people on this list and will have 15 more pages of baptism records to post and more in the next days. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. You too Carol . . . It's a beautiful day here in Sacramento, CA. I'm am thankful for many things and especially this list and the many wonderful people it's brought into my life. Lois Hetrick Stewart
I am tracing my Garlitz line and want to know if anyone has this information. Christain Garlitz had a daughter that obviously married a Valentine and they had a daughter named Catherine that married John Custer and they were the grandparents of George Armstong Custer. I need the full names and dates between John Custer and the Daughter Garlitz. Thanks, Les
Janice, I don't know how reliable the chart is but by looking up the different states and checking for a Statehood date it shouldn't be too hard to verify with the use of the Internet.
Dear listers, Just sending you all a wish for a very happy Thanksgiving! -- Carol Hepburn chepburn@cox.net Phoenix, AZ USA "Warm and sunny, as usual!"
Pat, thanks for posting that chart. One of my lines could just fit into that category. Do you know how reliable this information is? thanks, Janice
I found this posted on another genealogy site and thought it interesting. Here is the article: Any part of Illinois from 1781 to Statehood in 1818 could have been Va. Any Part of Indiana from 1781 to Statehood in 1816 could have been Va. Any part of Kentucky from 1781-Statehood could have been Va. Any part of Maryland from 1775-Statehood in 1792, could have been Va. Any part of North Carolina from 1728-Statehood in 1779 could have been Va. Any part of Pennsylvania from 1752-1786 Any part of Tennessee from 1760-1803 So, if a reference is made to an ancestor being born in Virginia as early as 1728, or as late as 1863, he could have been born in the areas mentioned above.
Dolores, I wonder if you knew my former school teacher, Everett Friend, who lived in Friendsville? Jan
> >I like stories, not just names and dates, so let's all share. > >Art I did try to change the heading a little because this has nothing to do with census information. I share an opinion here with Art. I like stories -- to me that is what my family history is about. It's nice to know where people were born, where they lived, when they died, where they are buried. But it's even more interesting to know how they lived, what they did when and if they had spare time. I've been trying to write down the things my parents remember of their childhood and relatives. I hope to some day put it all on CD so my nieces and nephews know what their grandparents and great-grandparents were like. I wonder if Joe Wright is a relative of mine. My Wrights were in VA, WV and Ohio. Delores
Tom, Karolyn Rush was my best friend, and Nancy was a good friend to my sister, Elsie. Tony was younger, but was a great favorite of mine. Karolyn inherited her golden tones in singing from her father Karol and her Aunt Aleta Rush Murphy. Delores

Hi there, I've been a member of this list for five years now and I concider the folks I've met and worked with on this list to be among my Blessings! I hope this finds you and yours in the best of health and spirits this day! Happy Thanksgiving! Bye for now, Kathleen
I agree with all of Sam's comments. Death records also often contain major errors for same reasons that obits are often inaccurate. I am most thankful for every kind person who is on this list. Joe Wright has just identified a Will for my great great grandmother, Mary Ann Ruckle married to Sam Raley. I had not known even an approximate death date for her, until I got this listing from the Allegany County Will Book N. My dad will be very pleased! Happy Thanksgiving! Beverly Railey Walter
Hello all, These stories are wonderful! I am printing them off and taking them to my mother's for Thanksgiving - she grew up in Friendsville. I am sure she will love them, and they will have a special meaning for her. Please keep them coming!! Sam, the census information for Stephen Willis Friend, Jr. and wife Mary Martha (DeWitt) Friend conflicts with other records.
