Pat, OOP's, I can't count this early in the morning. Had my mind on getting a piece of hot home made bread with my coffee. James Hezekiah is the gt grandfather of James Albert Fitzwater. Les
Pat, I was the one that chatted with you awhile back about Ruth Fitzwater possibly being the sister of James Hezekiah Fitzwater of the Yough Glades. He was born in Loudoun Co., Va. in December of 1784. The parentage of Ruth or James H. has never been proven. James Albert Fitzwater married Ada Bell Howell and he is the gt.gt.grandson of James Hezekiah. Coming down from James Hezekiah,Silas,John Lower and than him. If you let me know what information that you need on James Albert I will be glad to help you. Are you related to any of the Fitzwaters other than Ruth Junkins Fitzwater. James Fitzwater was her great uncle and say he IS buried at the Rose Hill Cemetery Swanton MD. --------- Mary Jane, I am interested in this James Fitzwater. Was he married to Ada Bell Howell? My g, g, grandmother, Anna JUNKINS' (1822-????) father was John W. Junkins and he was married twice. 1.) Ruth Fitzwater and 2.) Elizabeth Anderson. I need to find parents for both wives. I believe someone was looking at the possibility of Ruth Fitzwater having a brother named James. The time frame would have been the late 1700's. James A. Fitzwater, buried at Rose Hill was b. 1877, thus not fitting the time frame. Might your grandmother know of any of James A.'s ancestors? Thanks, Pat-T
I have seen the grave at Hoyes. There used to be a church there, but it was dismantled long ago. The only church there now is a Methodist church about 1/2 mile away, which also has a cemetery. The Catholic cemetery is beside route 42, just South of the intersection of route 42 and Hoyes/Sang Run Road. Delores
Walt, Would you say that Meshach was born in Montgomery Co., or in Frederick Co.? Is Browningsville in Frederick Co, or Montgomery? Did Montgomery Co. include territory from only Frederick, or also Prince Georges? Delores
Mary Jane, From Hoye's Pioneer Families, Meschach Browning died Nov 19, 1859. He rode three miles from Sang Run to visit his daughter, he got a cold and pneumonia and died at the Mettingly house at Hoye. He is buried across the road from this house in the Catholic Cemetery with his dear Mary. James Fitzwater was her great uncle and say he IS buried at the Rose Hill Cemetery Swanton MD.. The first person to be buried there. At the time it was called the Fitzwater cemetery MJD MARY JANE --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Protect your identity with Yahoo! Mail AddressGuard
Sam; Sometimes you take what information you get to support the stories you hear. Even when I've found the stories to be wrong, I still include them because that's what my relative remembers being told as a kid. Good Luck with the censur. I always find them interesting to read, but hard on the eyes. Pat, I have to disagree with the "time line". No part of Maryland was under Virginia at any time. Glenn in Michigan
Montgomery County, MD, was created in 1776, thus predating Meshach Browning's birth. Damascus is in Montgomery County, a few miles from the border with Frederick County. I live 10 miles away from Damascus. Just west of Damascus, essentially right at the Frederick County line, is the tiny town of Browningsville, MD. It is not much more than a crossroad. There is a connection between the founders of this town and Meshach. Curiously, the ancestors of the numerous Harvey family of western Maryland hailed from an area a mile or so south of Browningsville. The Harveys left Montgomery County sometime between 1794 and 1802, first settling in Hampshire County in what is now WV. On the front page of today's Cumberland Times is an article, with picture, of one Brian Shaffer, a descendant of one of the Mayflower passangers. Thought you might like to read about it at: http://www.cumberlandtimes-news.com I hope that's the web page. Oh, the Fuller family he mentions isn't the same family that settled in the Grantsville area. Brian is also descended from the Beachy's. That's how I know him. Remember, I am transcribing bad handwriting including names that were put into latin by the priests. I don't know latin and am just doing my best to share information with you. I want to hear back from anyone who knows any of the people baptized, their parents or sponsors because every page I am transcribing contains at least one relative of mine. Hi Lois: I like that too. In my own case, I started by being interested in all of the stories I could get from family members, then when I wanted to learn more I bought books and got what I could from them. Then SK Publications made a reasonable offer to Allegany & Garrett County rootsweb members, and I got into the census data because I could work on that at home over the winter. I think of census data as a once in 10 years "snapshot" of families when I'm working with it. There's a 10 year gap (20 from 1880-1900), so it's by no means perfect, you do find errors; but sometimes that's all that's available. Hi Pat: I went back & checked- I thought maybe I made a typo, but she did say she was 32 years old & born in May, 1868. The "preponderance of the evidence" shows you're right. She would have only been about 12 years old when she married if she was born in 1868. This is why I like to have 3,4 or more census records to compare with other records. I only have this one, and you're right; she must have been born 1859.
