Kathleen, Forgot to list child number 5 for Ersie Friend and Fred Dewitt. They also had a daughter named Cleo Dewitt - born about 1920. Meanwhile I just ran Paige DeWitt through the Social Security Death Index and found him listed as being born Jan. 23, 1918; died March 1982. Hope that this helps. Just received my two Casselman Chronicles today. In Number 1 of 2 there is an article re Elias Romesburg (b. 3-20-1748; d. 1803) of Elk Lick Township. I have a Hetrick/Garlitz cousin that is married to a Romesburg. Elias m. Catherine (her maiden name is uncertain; however there is a possibility that she was a Shaffer. They had the following children: (1) Charlotte (2) Johann George (3) Johann Heinrich (known as John) (4) Stephen (b. 1782) -- Came to Somerset with his parents as a young lad. Stephen m. Maria ______? (who probably died before 1850 and might have been buried on the farm (Carl Shaffer farm, along Shafer Run, Off T 55022). Stephen and Maria had 8 children. Their first child Solomon (b. 3/17/1812) m. Polly Mary Pritts. The other 7 children: Charlotte (1813-1880) m. Samuel Schrock; Elizabeth (2/18/1814-9/6/1895) m. Solomon Wiltrout; Susanna (6/16/1815-2/12/1880) m. Daniel Yoder; Mary, (6/181/1821-12/11/1899) m. Philip Boyts; Margaret Rebecca (1822) m. Jonathan Schrock; Barbara (1823-4/3/1900) m. James Jacob Firl; and Julianna (11/29/1826-6/2/1890) m. Joseph Yoder. (5) Johann Jacob (6) Elizabeth (7) Elias (8) Henry Hope there's some connections for you here. Lois Hetrick Stewart

Hi Wendy, I see you haven't had that baby yet! While you still have some free time, let me ask you about Malinda's kids. I only have a teeny bit on Ersie and 0 on the other three. I have Ersie as married to Fred DeWitt with a daughter Banna DeWitt who married Wallace Menear. Their daughter being Thelma Menear. Which is about all I have on Ersie....no dates, places, etc. Can you give me any additional data on Malinda's four? When the colonies were first drawn, Virginia's west boundary was not set but went west until...unknown. At the time the location of the west coast of North America was not known. Virginia's first western boundary was the Pacific. Technically, parts of these states were once Virginia. But...the area was divided into territories long before the statehood dates listed below. For example, the Indiana territory, which Illinois was apart of, was created in 1800. Tennessee in 1772. All you need to do if you have a person in question is look up the territorial creation date of the state. Any time before that there may be no official records to go by. Here is the article: Any part of Illinois from 1781 to Statehood in 1818 could have been Va. Any Part of Indiana from 1781 to Statehood in 1816 could have been Va. Any part of Kentucky from 1781-Statehood could have been Va. Any part of Maryland from 1775-Statehood in 1792, could have been Va. Any part of North Carolina from 1728-Statehood in 1779 could have been Va. Any part of Pennsylvania from 1752-1786 Any part of Tennessee from 1760-1803 So, if a reference is made to an ancestor being born in Virginia as early as 1728, or as late as 1863, he could have been born in the areas mentioned above. ==== MDGARRET Mailing List ==== If you need help with this list, make sure to email the list administrator, Carol Hepburn, at chepburn@cox.net. ==== MDGARRET Mailing List ==== If you need help with this list, make sure to email the list administrator, Carol Hepburn, at chepburn@cox.net. . ______________________________

Mary Jane, I found some Pritts in the Bittinger Book. Ernest J. Bittinger (7/5/1886-1/24/1960) m. (1) Elva Catherine Pritts (b. abt 1885; died 7/26/1905); dau of Francis Pritts and Harriet Calhoun. Swanton. Married (2) Nellie Blanche Pritts (9/26/1890-8/17/1967), Elva's sister, Jennings, MD; Fairchance, PA. There's quite a spread in birth ages from these Pritts and your Mary Pritt. Perhaps Mary was Francis Pritts mother. Hope there are some clues here for you. Hi, does anyone know anything about Malinda Friend mentioned as daughter who inherited most of Stephen Willis Friend Sr's property? Did she get married? If so what was her married name? Her family might have family bible or other records for the Stephen W. Friend family. I am interested in a son of Stephen Willis Friend, John H Friend. Little seems to be know about him as he died in the Civil War at about age 21 in October 1863.
