    1. Re: [MDGARRET] Barbara Hershberger, wife of Peter Beachy III
    2. Lois, thanks for your reply. Your observations seem along the same lines as what we have been finding. There are a lot of connected "cousins" in the Peter BEECHLEY line and there is a reunion ea August here in Idaho. I will post a separate mailing right after this with all the info I have on Michael BUECHELE, in the hopes that it might help someone and perhaps connect more of us. Regards, Janice in Idaho

    1. Re: [MDGARRET] Barbara Hershberger, wife of Peter Beachy III
    2. Samuel J. Bowser
    3. Thanks Connie: I had Feb. 8, 1853 as the date of her death also; then I found the 1860 census record that appears to show her alive and living with her son Joel in 1860; so I thought maybe I had the wrong Barbara Hershberger connected to Peter Beachy III. I'd made a rough estimate from early census records that Barbara had probably been born after 1774. Assuming that was her in the 1860 census, she was born about 1783. My interest in the Hershbergers came about because my great grandfather, Cornelius Bowser married Lucinda Livengood. Their daughter, Alice Bowser, married Silas Beachy. Lucinda Livengood's parents were Jonathon Livengood who married Mary Hershberger. Thanks to Pat Hook and others on the list, and Scott Boyd, who'd researched the Livengoods in Preston County, WV; I was able to place Jonathon S. Livengood as a son of Samuel P. Livengood, son of Peter Livengood, II (Jr.) born 1765 married to Anna Beachy born 1766. Barbara Hershberger born ca 1783 (according to the census record) was the daughter of John Hershberger, Sr.; born before 1756, married to Veronica Dellenbach; and as you said, Barbara married Peter Beachy III. Barbara had a brother John Hershberger, born about 1778 who was married twice. By his first marriage to Savannah Sterner, he had a daughter Mary Hershberger born May 25, 1825. This was the Mary Hershberger who married Jonathon S. Livengood, born Aug. 15, 1814. Her father, John, was our "missing link" for a long time. Both Jonathon S. Livengood and Mary Hershberger's lines were brick walls until a year or two ago, when the pieces finally started falling into place; first with Jonathon Livengood's line, then Mary Hershberger's. We knew somehow Jonathon must have been connected to the first Peter Livengood, but didn't know how; and that Mary Hershberger should connect somehow to John Hershberger, Sr. Then there was the David S. Livengood born Apr. 4, 1826 married to Catharine (Unkown); buried at Maple Grove Church cemetery. He was a brother to Jonathon S. Livengood, appears to have fought in the civil war, and was counted immediately after Jonas J. Beachy (father of Leo Beachy, the famous photographer) in the 1880 census, just up the Maple Grove Church Road in the Maynadier Ridge area. It seems almost impossible to study one of these families and not study all. Getting those lines together then, it seemed there must have been some relationship between Silas Beachy and his wife Alice Bowser through the Livengoods. No one seemed to know how they were related, though, because of the missing Livengood link in Alice Bowser's ancestry. It turned out they were 3rd cousins, once removed; very distant cousins, through Peter Livengood I (Sr.) and Barbara Nafziger. Peter Livengood I, was Silas Beachy's 2nd great grandfather and Alice Bowser's 3rd great grandfather; so they were 4 and 5 generations removed from Peter Livengood, I. Do you know if there are still any Beachy books for sale? I heard and saw your brother-in-law's presentation at the Casselman River Amish-Mennonite annual meeting several years ago and was really impressed with his work. 2. Janice, It appears that BEECHLEY (pronounced Beckly) is also the BEEGLEY and BEEGLY family. (Seems it was derived from the way the Germans pronounced it). Michal BUCHELE (how he signed his will) is discussed in the Bittinger Book . . . also in Hoye's Pioneer Families as Michael BUECHLEY. Could fine no mention of Peter though. Seems to me that the DeWitts and Beeghleys were discussed earlier on the site. Maybe there's something in the Digests, but I don't know how to help you with that. 3. Hi Dan, (Harry) I'm incline to say that Cora was a VanSickle. ~ In Mary L. (Friend) Whorton's obit it says she (Mary L.) was survived by: . "....a brother, Reese Friend, Akron, Ohio; a half-sister, Mrs.Cora Humberston, Markleysburg, Pa.; and two half-brothers, James VanSickle, Cumberland; Lloyd VanSickle, Uniontown...." . ~ I go by about a half dozen different names myself....Kathleen is a very flexible name! I gave up trying to get folks to call me by just one certain name back in my twenties. Having married a Fitzgerald I soon learned that people are inclined to say Fitzpatrick when they read our surname for some reason. I tried naming our oldest son Patrick thinking that he'd at least have his name said correctly when read. I thought that surely no one would read it as Patrick Fitzpatrick, right? They don't. They read his name as Gerald Fitzpatrick. We also get called Fitzgibbon, Fitzhugh, etc. Folks just seem to just see the Fitz and finish it out with the first thing that comes to mind. I learned (when waiting for our name to be called anywhere) to just answer to any name that began with Fitz. Having learned to be patient about my new surname I lightened up on my given name as well and just answer to whatever the other person prefers...Kaye, Katy, Kit, Kathy, Kathy Mae (my cousin George in California)(his sister is Kathy Ann) Kathleen, Grandma K., etc. Our oldest grandson used to say his Fs as Bs when he was little so we decided he shouldn't call me Grandma Fitzgerald in public. The name has stuck, and not just with our grandchildren. Even the children and the teachers at the local grade school I volunteer at call me Grandma K. A lot of the kindergartners have trouble with their Fs as well so using Mrs. Fitzgerald needs to be avoided there!. What can I do? {;o) . I haven't received anything from your daughter yet, but will keep my eye out!
