And the brand new downtown Akron Summit County Public Library is amazing. The genealogy collection there is very, very good. Pat, the application they sent me was for Nancy Fern Hafer DeVore. This application was processed in 2002 and was approved. If you are looking for something more, you could call or write the DAR and request a copy of Margaret Cupler's application. I'm not sure if they will send a specific application, but it doesn't hurt to try. The address is: www.DAR.org. I believe Margaret's national number is 498-909. The cost is minimal, just $10 for each application. The ladies I have dealt with there have been most helpful. Sandy, Sorry to bother you again on the same subject but I am wondering if the DAR application that you mentioned with birth of 1736 d. 1810 have Casper Durst as an accepted patriot? Who was on the application as the person wanting to join the DAR? Thanks so much. Patricia Durst Shaffer
Would you have any more info on the parents of Jean Robertson? I have an Elizabeth Robertson, dau. of David Robertson and Jean Gordon, B. Oct. 1853 in Lonaconing and married William Muir in 1874 in Lonaconing. I suspect Jean and Elizabeth may be sisters? Thanks, John Keyes
Thanks, that is very insightful and encouraging. Nancy -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Sun, 10 Sep 2006 3:07 AM Subject: [MDGARRET] Bounce Problems Hi there, Well, the one address ([email protected]) was wrong because of the "-", but right now we're in a grace period where either [email protected] OR [email protected] should work. I would bet you dimes to donuts the basic problem has to do with your AOL address and/or the recent "migration" of the list to the new mailing system. Many of the problems are way too complicated to explain here but AOL users seem to be having more then their share. Rootsweb is currently trying to switch over nearly 29,000 lists to a new up-dated mailing system and they are swamped with problems to sort out every time a new batch of lists roll over. . Originally Rootsweb thought this switch would only take a little over a week to wrap up...that was several weeks ago. They now think it will take another week or two to finish the last of the lists and even longer to get all the wrinkles ironed out. List Admins were given a 22 page tutorial to wade through to prepare them for this migration (which should tell you something) there are new settings that they must now figure out with plus more list chores to do. . [BTW...The number of lists being put up for adoption has really increased since the migration began so I think we should applaud Sonny for sticking with us!] . I'm sure that Sonny is feverishly trying to fine tune things at his end and is working with Rootsweb to get things fine tuned for the list at their end. I think the best thing that we as list members can do during the coming weeks is to report any problems we have getting or sending posts to Sonny and then be VERY patient. . Remember...this too shall pass! Thought this was interesting . . . some little known facts. I thought the dollar bill was older. When they were designing this currency, 1776 was on their mind. I know the penny has been around forever, at least in the 1800's. Must have depended on the metal available at the time. I have a penny made from pewter in the 1940s when copper was in short supply. Nickel must have been one of the most plentiful. History of the one dollar bill Take out a one dollar bill, and look at it. The one dollar bill you're looking at first came off the presses in 1957 in its present design. This so-called paper money is in fact a cotton and linen blend, with red and blue minute silk fibers running through it. It is actually material. We've all washed it without it falling apart. A special blend of ink is used, the contents we will never know. It is overprinted with symbols and then it is starched to make it water resistant and pressed to give it that nice crisp look. If you look on the front of the bill, you will see the United States Treasury Seal. On the top you will see the scales for a balanced budget. In the center you have a carpenter's square, a tool used for an even cut. Underneath is the Key to the United States Treasury. That's all pretty easy to figure out, but what is on the back of that dollar bill is something we should all know. If you turn the bill over, you will see two circles. Both circles, together, comprise the Great Seal of the United States. The First Continental Congress requested that Benjamin Franklin and a group of men come up with a Seal. It took them four years to accomplish this task and another two years to get it approved. If you look at the left-hand circle, you will see a Pyramid. Notice the face is lighted, and the western side is dark. This country was just beginning. We had not begun to explore the West or decided what we could do for Western Civilization. The Pyramid is un-capped, again signifying that we were not even close to being finished. Inside the capstone you have the all-seeing eye, an ancient symbol for divinity. It was Franklin's belief that one man couldn't do it alone, but a group of men, with the help of God, could do anything. "IN GOD WE TRUST" is on this currency. The Latin above the pyramid, ANNUIT COEPTIS, means, "God has favored our undertaking." The Latin below the pyramid, NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM, means, "a new order has begun." At the base of the pyramid is the Roman Numeral for 1776. If you look at the right-hand circle, and check it carefully, you will learn that it is on every National Cemetery in the United States. It is also on the Parade of Flags Walkway at the Bushnell, Florida National Cemetery, and is the centerpiece of most hero's monuments. Slightly modified, it is the seal of the President of the United States, and it is always visible whenever he speaks, yet very few people know what the symbols mean. The Bald Eagle was selected as a symbol for victory for two reasons: First, he is not afraid of a storm; he is strong, and he is smart enough to soar above it. Secondly, he wears no material crown. We had just broken from the King of England. Also, notice the shield is unsupported. This country can now stand on its own. At the top of that shield you have a white bar signifying congress, a unifying factor. We were coming together as one nation. In the Eagle's beak you will read, "E PLURIBUS UNUM", meaning, "one nation from many people". Above the Eagle, you have thirteen stars, representing the thirteen original colonies, and any clouds of misunderstanding rolling away. Again, we were coming together as one. Notice what the Eagle holds in his talons. He holds an olive branch and arrows. This country wants peace, but we will never be afraid to fight to preserve peace. The Eagle always wants to face the olive branch, but in time of war, his gaze turns toward the arrows They say that the number 13 is an unlucky number. This is almost a worldwide belief. You will usually never see a room numbered 13, or any hotels or motels with a 13th floor. But think about this: 13 original colonies, 13 signers of the Declaration of Independence, 13 stripes on our flag, 13 steps on the Pyramid, 13 letters in the Latin above, 13 letters in "E Pluribus Unum", 13 stars above the Eagle, 13 bars on that shield, 13 leaves on the olive branch, 13 fruits, and if you look closely, 13 arrows. And, for minorities: the 13th Amendment. I always ask people, "Why don't you know this?" Your children don't know this, and their history teachers don't know this. Too many veterans have given up too much to ever let the meaning fade. Many veterans remember coming home to an America that didn't care. Too many veterans never came home at all.

Tom, I don't know who the parents of Henry Marshall Stark were, but Robyn said he was a brother of her great grandfather, George Edward Stark Sr. Perhaps Robyn can tell us about the parents. Phyllis
Thanks Kathi for taking time to answer my question. I have spent the evening unsuccessfully trying to change a color in a map. Apparently I don't know enough about layers. As far as I know, my program is the complete one. It is Adobe Photoshop 7.0. Will send an email to you directly with some details. Thanks. I found the 1930 census you mentioned. Do you have his father's name? I can't place him in my records. Many thanks, Tom On 9/10/06, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: > > Hi Robyn, > Henry Stark is my uncle through his marriage to Clara Snyder. > > Here is what I have: > Henry Marshall Stark born June 14, 1889 > died April 16, 1986(Buried in > Frostburg > Memorial Park. > + Clara Mae Snyder born August 14, 1890 > died April 27, 1986 > > They were married May 29, 1911 > > They have three living children. > 1 daughter who is 90 years old > 1 daughter who is 83 years old > 1 son who is 77 years old > > If you have a 1930 census for Allegany Co. Hi Robyn, Henry Stark is my uncle through his marriage to Clara Snyder. Here is what I have: Henry Marshall Stark born June 14, 1889 died April 16, 1986(Buried in Frostburg Memorial Park. + Clara Mae Snyder born August 14, 1890 died April 27, 1986 They were married May 29, 1911 They have three living children. 1 daughter who is 90 years old 1 daughter who is 83 years old 1 son who is 77 years old If you have a 1930 census for Allegany Co. You will find this family living in Eckhart Mines, Md. Henry worked at the Frostburg State Teachers College(now Frostburg University) as a custodian until he retired. He had a great memory. He told us about a silver mine that he could locate in Garrett Co. Also he told us of some Indian Grounds in Garrett Co. Not a whole lot of information, but I hope it helps. Phyllis
AOL users (and anyone else with a "problem" ISP) have to check their spam folders and click THIS IS NOT SPAM to train their email to accept the new Rootsweb email. RW has worked with AOL, after stopping the list migration in midstream because of all the bouncing, to get them to accept the new system and things should be okay now. I manage several lists and none of my AOL folks have bounced off during this process so I'm hoping that's a good sign. But, really train your email to understand this is emial you want - check that spam folder. As I posted before I would surely check AOL. I would notify them that you messages are bouncing. It wouldn't take much for them to fix it.
Hi there, Well, the one address ([email protected]) was wrong because of the "-", but right now we're in a grace period where either [email protected] OR [email protected] should work. Bye for now, Kathleen
I will contact AOL. I am wondering if they did something when changed to a free system. My home page and email page changed also and not for the better. I actually have Road Runner with AOL through Time Warner cable, but wanted to keep my old AOL email address. Thanks so much for your suggestion. Computers can be so frustrating for an old lady! My brother had aol and he had my address and sent email for three years all of a sudden they came back undeliverable. I checked with my ISP and they said it was aol. They fixed the problem. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ________________________________________________________________________ Check out the new AOL. I tried it both ways, with and without the L, but no luck. Thanks for your suggestion! I think when they went to the new system, they removed the "L". I really don't think it has anything to do with AOL. Hope this helps.
