Hi Pat, Thank you for the detailed reply. I think there is a fair chance your Isaac Moyers is connected. Apparently there has been no research conducted on the family of George Moyers and Veronica Thomas. I don't know if I can pull the pieces together though. I have some family group sheets, and the bits and pieces I'm finding are seeming connected by locations, times, names and religion (Brethren). I just don't have enough fidelity to put everything together. I've been focused on his daughters (who married my Umbel/Umble's), it's surprising no one on the paternal side has done any research. I checked the West Virginia death records for Addie Cox and found that she had died on September 13-14 in Mineral County WV at the age of 30 years of typhoid fever. If you would like to see the records go to _http://www.wvculture.org/history/archivesindex_ (http://www.wvculture.org/history/archivesindex) . Hope this helps. Eleanor
Hi Beth, I'd be happy to exchange notes, but like you I don't have many notes on Moyers/Myers. I think I'm starting to make some grudging progress on this family, but it's very, very iffy right now. Right now I believe Catherine was the daughter of George Moyers (whom I have deceased ca. 1864, probably in Fayette Co., PA). This George Moyers married Veronica (Franny) Thomas, who was the d/o Michael Thomas and Magdalena Maust. George who d. 1864, was the son of George, Sr., Moyers and I know even less about him. According to Bittinger, p435, In 1835 Geo. Moyer was elected deacon of the Sandy Creek Congregation (Brethren), and in 1836 George Moyer was chosen as a speaker of the church. p438, In 1850, George Moyer, from some cause, left the church and attached himself to the fraternity known as the Shoemakers, he being a minister at the time. ... In 1861, George Moyer came back to the church (Brethren) again and in 1864 George Moyer died. According to Gingerich, p457 Veronica (Franey, or Fanny), d/o Michael Thomas, m. George Moyer (no date or location known), but provides no further information on this family. I believe the following two census records pertain to George Moyer and Veronica's family: 1820 Wharton Twp, Fayette Co, PA (M33-103, p173), ln2. George Myers 221101-22010 (ln4 Jacob Most, ln5 Richard Hall, ln7 Michael Thomas, ln8 Samuel Myers, ln9 Joseph Markley) 1830 Henry Clay Twp, Fayette Co, PA (M19-162), p165, ln8 George Myers 1m5-10, 1m10-15, 1m15-20, 1m50-60, 2f10-15, 1f40-50. (ln3 Michael Thomas; ln6 Isaac Myers; ln10 John Fyke; ln12 Isaac Humble; ln15 Jacob Most; ln16 Samuel Myers) I have one other daughter of George Moyers and Veronica; Sarah Moyers, who married Daniel Umbel, but I don't have any dates for birth, marriage or death of Sarah either (I can provide some guesstimates, but that's about it) Sources: Bittinger, Emmert F., "Allegheny Passage: Churches and Families, West Marva District, Church of the Brethren, 1752-1990", Camden, ME: Penobscot Press, 1990. (Bittinger, citing; an article written by M. J. Thomas of Sandy Creek, published on March 7, 1876 in the "Primitive Christian," vol.1, no.10). Gingerich, Hugh F. and Rachel W. Kreider, "Amish and Amish Mennonite Genealogies", (Gordonville, PA: Pequea Pub., 1986), p457 (TH55 Veronica Thomas), Veronica (Franey, or Fanny), d/o Michael Thomas. ------------------------------------ 10/6/2006, [email protected] writes: I am related to the Moyers family. Thanks Todd, I found them. They are associated with the family of Isaac M. Umbel and Mary Catherine Frazee. I'm not sure, but they were all probably of the Brethren faith. I'm looking for the cemetery that William S. Winebrenner and his wife Rebecca Beeman Winebrenner of Borden Shaft were buried. WINEBRENNER 27 Feb 1892 Mrs Rebecca Winebrenner, aged 70 years, wife of William S Winebrenner, died at her home at Borden Shaft on Friday (19 Feb). I'm asking both county lists as the Winebrenner family lived in both Allegany and Garrett Counties. William was the son of Isaac Winebrenner and Nancy Barnard Winebrenner. Isaac's obituary says he was buried in the Old Porter Cemetery. If that is the cemetery in Eckhart off of Parkersburg Road his headstone must be one of the many broken ones in that Porter Cemetery as I could not find it nor is it listed on the Porter Cemetery transcription. But perhaps that may be the stones were broken and missing before someone made the list? I do not have an obituary for William so I don't know if he may have been bury with some of his other family members. WINEBRENNER 05 Apr 1895 Isaac Winebrenner, aged 91 years, died Wednesday on his farm between Frostburg and Eckhart Mines. He was born near Frostburg and resided all his life near his birthplace. He was the father of 11 children; 6 sons and 5 daughters and his descendants number 265. 06 Apr 1895 (follow-up article with 3 paragraphs) Mr Isaac Winebrenner died at the home of his son Morris near Eckhart Mines on 3 April. He was buried from English Lutheran Church at Frostburg, Rev Britt officiating. He was born near Midlothian in 1804 and he was a great hunter. His remains are buried in the Old Porter Cemetery Thanks, Carol
Is Tasker the maiden or married name of Mary Jane? My husband's mother was a Tasker. Thought maybe from the same line.
Sonny, Thanks for mentioning the guest book! I wasn't aware of it. Thanks for sticking with the mailing list. Wish we could have kept the old format I miss items with all the repeating of posts but hey at least we still have a list! Carol
