    3. On November 6, 1882, Dr. Bernard O. Thomas, Sr., who practiced medicine in Frederick from 1906 to 1965, and who was medical examiner for Frederick County for 10 years, was born near Adamstown. He died at his Watkins Acres home on April 15, 1969. On November 6, 1912, Edward Schley Delaplaine, later a judge of the Maryland Court of Appeals and an active local historian, set a school record in a traditional 5-mile race at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA. He was awarded a gold medal and a place on the school's track team. He won the race in 30 minutes and 40 seconds, eclipsing the old record by more than a minute. On November 6, 1946, D. John Markey, of Walkersville, lost to two-term Maryland Governor Herbert R. O'Conor in the race for a U. S. Senate seat.
