    3. On June 6, 1824, the main building at Mount Saint Mary's College in Emmitsburg, occupied by students though still under construction, was destroyed by fire. Father John Dubois, Mount president, assisted students and faculty in an attempt to extinguish the fire, but the entire structure was lost. On June 6, 1910, Charles B. Cox became manager of the New City Hotel in the unit block of West Patrick Street in Frederick. He left the job September 10, 1918, to take over as manager of The Leland Hotel (later The Anthony Wayne) in Waynesboro, PA. On June 6, 1944, Annon Shriner, of Thurmont, became the first Frederick County man killed in the D-Day campaign. He died on Omaha Beach.
