On July 20, 1963, D. John Markey, who owned and operated a shoe and hat store at 9 North Market Street in Frederick, and who was a brigadier general in the Maryland National Guard, committed suicide at his Talbot County home. He was born October 7, 1882, in Frederick. On July 20, 1972, The Articles of Incorporation were signed creating The Frederick County Landmarks Foundation. On July 20, 1973, retired Associate Judge of The Maryland Court of Appeals Edward S. Delaplaine married Helen M. Stickell, widow of R. Dean Stickell.
