    3. On February 10, 1777, the Maryland State Assembly met in Annapolis to formally organize the state government. Thomas Johnson of Frederick was elected on February 13 as the state's first governor. On February 10, 1871, John Martin was hanged in the jail yard on West South Street for the rape and murder of an 82-year-old woman near Mt. Pleasant. On February 10, 1967, Ronald A. McGolerick, of Mt. Airy, was indicted by the Frederick County Grand Jury on 15 counts of malicious burning in the destruction of 15 barns in the New Market-Mount Airy area.
