On February 21, 1843, William P. Maulsby, Jr., who entered as a private and rose to the rank of colonel in the Union Army during The Civil War, was born in Westminster. He died November 14, 1911. He was a prominent lawyer in Frederick for most of his adult life. On February 21, 1866, James McSherry, later chief judge of the Maryland Court of Appeals, married Clara Louise McAleer. They became the parents of six children and raised them in Frederick. On February 21, 1898, Jacob Mehrling Holdcraft, who spent a lifetime compiling a listing of those buried in the graveyards of Frederick County, was born in Frederick. He was the son of John H. and Ella C. Mehrling Holdcraft. His works were published as Names in Stone. On February 21, 1981, fire heavily damaged the Grace United Church of Christ on East Second Street in Frederick.
