On May 19, 1861, Dr. Edward Oliver Belt, who founded the Episcopal Eye, Ear and Throat Charity Hospital in Washington, D. C., was born in Frederick County. On May 19, 1919, William Tyler Page, who was born and raised on Record Street in Frederick, was appointed clerk of The House of Representatives. On May 19, 1921, John D. Hendrickson, the founder of the dry goods firm that bore his name, died at his West Second Street home. He was born in Baker's Valley near Buckeystown on September 24, 1855. On May 19, 1949, the first auction was conducted at The Woodsboro Livestock Sales, Inc., in Woodsboro. The auctioneer was Delbert Null, whose father John Null, was also on the auctioneering staff. On May 19, 1973, Donald Grossnickle, of Middletown, became the first male graduate of Hood College. He later was an assistant state's attorney in Frederick County for many years.
