Good afternoon: A subject that comes up every so often in terms of Surnames usually. I have seen it several times in the last few weeks. We need to remember that while the spelling may be a clue, that what's important is the phonetics. I had this brought back to me today when looking over a 1795 KY Deed. Same name, clearly one individual, three different ways all in one document; " Joshua Berdits, Joshua Berdetts, Joshua Burdetts". In one of my family lines this is common; "Mounce, Mounts". Have FUN!
