On February 24, 1848, John D. Ahalt, who founded Ahalt's Distillery in Burkittsville in 1878, was born. On February 24, 1880, John Garrison Etchison, who founded the Etchison Funeral Home in Jefferson in 1848, died at the age of 57. He later moved his business to Frederick, and it continued until 1971. Today, the Keeney, Basford Funeral Home occupies the same facility that The Etchison Funeral Home occupied for many years in the 100 block of East Church Street in Frederick. On February 24, 1992, Regis Raymond Raffensberger, head of the Tactical Unit of The Baltimore City Police Department, became police chief in Frederick.
