    3. On November 25, 1912, Col. Luke Tiernan Brien, a Frederick County native and owner of The Landon House at Urbana, and who was a pioneer in railroad construction in the Midwest after The Civil War, died at the home of Mrs. Harry Besant on East Church Street in Frederick. He was born December 22, 1827. On November 25, 1924, Harry Houdini, the great magician, appeared at the National Guard Armory at the corner of West Second and North Bentz Streets in Frederick, and exposed fakes and magician's tricks. On November 25, 1969, President Richard M. Nixon announced the termination of U. S. research in offensive biological warfare, affecting 1,000 jobs at Ft. Detrick.
