On November 18, 1821, the Rev. David Bossler was installed as the pastor of the Trinity Reformed Church in Mechanicstown (Thurmont). He served until November 11, 1832. On November 18, 1862, Dr. John Moran, the examining physician for the draft in Frederick, was acquitted at a hearing in Washington on charges he took bribes to exempt certain young men from military service. On November 18, 1866, Perry McCleery, the co-publisher with his brother Valentine of The Moon, and composing room foreman for The Frederick News-Post for 40 years, was born in the same North Market Street house in which he died January 24, 1927. On November 18, 1898, Admiral Winfield Scott Schley, a Frederick native, arrived in Frederick for a hero's welcome following his July victory at The Battle of Santiago. On November 18, 2001, Stoll D. Kemp, who opened the first antique shop in New Market in 1936, died at a Frederick nursing home. He coined the name of New Market as "The Antiques Capital of Maryland.
