The 1860 Census, Urbana District, Frederick County, MD, page 473B, lists a David Hagan, 64, farmer, as head of a household. However, the children identified living with him: William, age 20; Lavinia, age 18 and Singleton, age 16 are the children of Adam Hagan and Cordelia Purdy Hagan of that county. Adam Hagan died in 1855. To the best of my knowledge this David Hagan is not mentioned in any other Census for Frederick County. I can accept that he died after 1860 as the reason he is not mentioned in later Census but I have no idea why he is not mentioned in earlier Census records. Perhaps he had another name that he was using then? To compound this mystery the above children are listed in the 1870 Frederick County Census in the household of their mother, Cordelia Hagan (in the 1880 Census her name is spelled Cornelia). I would appreciate any help in answering the following questions: 1. Who was the above David Hagan? 2. Where could Cornelia Hagan been when the 1860 Census was taken?
