Dorinda Chip has relative who is named Alvin Knott Dinsmore. His parents were William Alexander (b. 1801 d 1893) and Dorothy/Mary Dinsmore (b. 1822 d after 1880). The confusion of her name comes from the various census and no, it is not two wives. I have never found their marriage record though. I do believe it was in Maryland and not PA although I have no proof either way. Alvin is the oldest son and was born in 1846 in Maryland-Washington (most likely) or Frederick Counties. The Knott middle name has me wondering about a Knott family connection. William Alexander Dinsmore's middle name is his mother's maiden name. This must be a family tradition. While the will would not her father, one of the older children could be. Is there anyone doing Knott family research? Jane Thursby From England to Maryland by the early 1700's and still Maryland.
