    3. Marian, You raise some intriguing possibilities for me. Sorry that I can not answer your questions but your's intrigue me. I will have to give a little background though. A long held conviction in my Howard family is that my ancestor, John Howard (1805 Pa.-1881 Oh.) had been married to Elizabeth Moses (1804 Va. - 1877 Oh.) on Oct. 8, 1843 in Preble county, Ohio. However, this is not true which I found out later. I should state that my mother and I argued about this to the day she pased away. There are estate records on file in that county for the heirs of a Levi Moses to the effect that John Howard was paying the heirs of this Levi Moses their inheritance. Long story short, they were his step-children. I was never able determine who Levi's wife Elizabeth was by birth. Levi Moses died sometime in 1839 in the county and state mentioned. The estate papers are a who's who of the region, as would be expected, but offered no insight into the heritage of his wife nor he. All I knew from later census records is that they hailed from Virginia. Many years later I was chatting with a friend and we got onto my Howard family and the Moses family. They were both adherents of the German Baptist religious sect; and he and I were comparing field notes. He mentioned that he had found the maiden name of Levi Moses' wife in Augusta county, Virginia. He further related that Levi L. Moses and Elizabeth Rogers were married by Rev. William Wilson on Aug. 22, 1822. This same minister had also performed the marriage of James Rodgers and Elizabeth Baltzer on Dec. 27, 1827, same county and state. Also in the same book, presumably a book on the marriages of Augusta county, Virginia, was the marriage of Mary Rodgers and John Hardwick on Jan. 19, 1830 by Rev. Henry S. Kepler. This is all we knew. After seeing your posting this morning I went back and looked at the abstracted estate papers of Levi Moses in Preble county, Ohio. Mentioned within them is a William Rogers and Sarah Rogers. Does either Levi Moses, William Rogers or Sarah Rogers ring a bell for you? I would appreciate any help. Thank you.
