Have I been missing some juicy BAKER posts? > It does appear that William and Adam were brothers, and Henry was their > father, but just because they're buried in the same place, and the years > click, doesn't make the link, to me anyway - so that's why I'm > asking ----< Besides the circumstantial evidence, William is named as a son in Henry's will, dated 7 May 1813, probate 12 Feb 1816 (Frederick Co. Wills HS-1-172). Children named as :Elizabeth Arter, Adam Baker, Eve Crumbacker, William Baker, Margaret Duddero, and Henry Baker. > And there are a few other inclusions that I've seen your posting that I > haven't seen before, e.g. Henry son of William; Andrew son of William; > Joseph son of Wm and Magdalene***;; Catherine H. daughter of Wm. and > Magdalene.< Again, circumstantial evidence aside, obits in the Frederick paper tell the story: The obit of Catherine Hull Baker (d. 26 Jun 1897) pub. in "Frederick News," 9 Jul 1897 says that she lived and died at the old Oak Orchard homestead, and that she was the brother of and resided with Joseph G. Baker. The obit in "Frederick News" of Joseph G. Baker of Oak Orchard (d. 25 Jan 1899) pub. 26 Jan 1899, specifically states that he was "half-brother to the late Daniel Baker, of Buckeystown; Henry Baker, of Baltimore; John Baker, of Linganore, and Andrew Baker, of Germantown, and was related to Mr. Joseph D. Baker, of this city. The funeral will take place Friday afternoon, Jan 27, at 2 o'clock. Interment in family graveyard on the farm on which the deceased lived and died." Henry Baker's (d. 24 Feb 1896) obit, pub. 25 Feb 1896, also in "The News," mentions late brother Daniel Baker, of Buckyestown, and Prof. A. H. Baker, Montgomery Co. "His surviving brother, Mr. Joseph G. Baker, still lives at the old homestead, Oak Orchard, this county, which has been in the possession of the Baker family since 1752." --John ----- Original Message ----- From: "LeRoy Wheeler" <lawheel@erols.com> To: "John Freed" <fleance@nyc.rr.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 20, 2006 1:50 PM Subject: Fw: Baker;; Baker Family Cemetery, etc. > Just lately saw a newer email address for you, so here's my mail, more > directly than via MDFREDER. > LeRoy Wheeler, Maryland > > -----Original Message----- > From: LeRoy Wheeler <lawheel@erols.com> > To: John Freed <fleance@panix.com> > Cc: aaaame <lawheel@erols.com> > Date: Tuesday, September 19, 2006 6:10 PM > Subject: Baker;; Baker Family Cemetery, etc. > > > John, > Found an old post of yours from 2000 on MDFR regarding the Baker > family which has some members buried at the Oak Orchard location. > > I am curious about where you obtained the lineage of Henry Baker Sr. Was > it > from McKinsey's book ? > I don't recall a Henry-William relation, though I was perhaps more focused > on > the Hull relationship. > > It does appear that William and Adam were brothers, and Henry was their > father, but just because they're buried in the same place, and the years > click, doesn't make the link, to me anyway - so that's why I'm asking ---- > plus I descend from William/John/Andrew.
