On March 8, 1837, former President Andrew Jackson returned to Talbott's Tavern in the first block of West Patrick Street in downtown Frederick, leaving the next day for The Hermitage in his "coach and four." On March 8, 1877, the Rev. Anthony Shulenberger was installed as the pastor of the Mt. Pleasant Reformed Church. He served until November 1, 1894. On March 8, 1880, renowned attorney Belva A. Lockwood, of Washington, DC, appeared in Frederick County Circuit Court as the lawyer for three boys charged with larceny from a railroad car at Point of Rocks. Ms. Lockwood is believed to be the first woman to appear in a local court as an attorney.
