    3. Hi, These family names, Johnson, Ford, Henthorn & Polk(e)& Linn have some connections to the Gilliland family I'm researching. If anyone is researching any of the above names, I would like to correspond with you. The GILLILAND name has many variations of spelling, GILLELAND, GILLAN, GILLION, GILLELAN, GILLEYLEN. Mary GILLILAND of Frederick County, Maryland dated February 23, 1775 probate May 2, 1782 #1 p. 66-67 Son William JOHNSON plantation & 70 acres tract where he lives in Frederick County.Son Barnet JOHNSON 25 pounds; Daughters Hannah POLKE & Mary LINN - bed, furniture & clothes equally.Executor: son William; Witnesses: John Higgins, Mathias Campbell, Patrick Thompson James had died by 1757 at which time an inventory of his estate was valued at over 23 pounds. Mary GILLILAND, her relationship unknown, swore an oath to a just and perfect inventory. James estate remained in the court for the next ten years. Hannah GILLILAND was appointed administratrix of his estate. According to these records she married William POLK and the final account of James' estate was received in the September Court in 1767. Early Settlers of Frederick County, Maryland and Adams County, Pennsylvania. Mary GILLILAND is believe to be the wife of James GILLILAND. Was Mary GILLILAND married to a JOHNSON prior to or after the marriage to James GILLILAND? Besides, Barnet & William JOHNSON there is a Nicolas & Jacob JOHNSON mentioned in several early dated transactions. Does any JOHNSON family members know anything about this family? Does any LINN family members know who Mary GILLILAND OR JOHNSON had married? Court Records, March 5, 1757, James GILLILAND, his administration bond in common form by Hannah GILLILAND, his administratrix with John HENTHORN and James HENTHORN of Frederick County, Maryland for surators in sum of 300 pounds sterling, dated 5th day of March 1757. The surators sued Hannah for several years after 1757 to collect something due the estate. She was married to, William POLK. (there may be a further connection of Gilliland to Philip HENTHORN, but the note didnt explain it.) (Source: Testamentary Proceedings, Maryland Hall of Records). Does any HENTHORN family members know of this proceeding and a connection to the GILLILAND family? William Polk was a son to Charles & Christina POLK(e). POLKE, Charles of Frederick County, Maryland, farmer. Will dated March 19, 1753, very sick. To wife Christina: thirds of moveable and use of plantation during widowhood; if she marry, plantation to be sold or disposed of as follows: to son William: his horse and saddle and his equal share of plantation. Plantation to be equally divided among 5 sons and 1 daughter. (Sons named in birth order) Willilam, Edmond, Thomas, Charles, John and Sarah. If any die, their part equally among rest. If my executors sees proper to send my sons to trades, they should do it. Wife and Ralph MATSON Executors. /s/ Charles POLKE. Witnesses: Henry STEWART, John FICHURE, Willilam GILLILAND. Proved June 20, 1753 by FICHER and GILLILAND. (pp 71-72). Frederick County, Maryland, Wills, Liber A#1 1744-1777. GILLILAND researchers have a Rachel GILLILAND married to Henry FORD. This FORD family resided near the GILLILAND family near "INDIAN BOTTOM" as late as 1783. She is believed to be the daughter of Thomas GILLILAND, mother UNKNOWN. 'Later on Assessments of 1783 listed on "Indian Bottom" are Henry Ford, James Ford, James Prather and Thomas Prather.' The GILLILAND family resided in the Prince George Co>Frederick Co>Washington Co as early as 1733. The property they owned were the following. 1733-William GILLENE is listed in the 1733 Taxable of Potomac Hundred of Prince George Co. (now Frederick Co) In 1750, purchased 100 acres of land called "Darlings Delight from Thomas CREASP. 1739-Hugh GILLILAND-found in records in Prince George County. In 1749 Hugh purchased 790 acres of land call "Resurvey on Hazard". IN 1750, Hugh purchased "June Court" and in same year he purchased 150 acres called "Big Spring" 1750-James GILLILAND-purchased 150 acres of land called "Big Spring". In 1754, he requested a road to "Gilliland's Mill". 1749-Thomas GILLILAND is listed as operating Gillilan's Mill near Clear Spring. 1752-Thomas GILLILAND-purchased 100 acres of "Indian Bottom" on the Potomac 1774-Hugh GILLILAND (son of Thomas) sold "Basil Fort" and purchased 100 acres called "Indian Bottom" 1784-Hugh GILLILAND sold "Indian Bottom" to Thomas & James Prather. This property was granted to Thomas in 1752
