She suffered a severely broken leg, which was repaired in an operation by Drs. E. L. Beckley and J. E. Beatty. Mrs. Sparrow, however, died on April 4, 1895, after tetanus set in. Also trapped in the collapse was John Herring, the former owner of the hotel. He escaped serious injury.
