On March 31, 1842, a fire in the residence of Dr. William Tyler on Record Street in Frederick spread to several other buildings including the cupola of The Frederick County Courthouse. On March 31, 1873, Dr. Daniel Zacharias, who served as pastor of the Evangelical Reformed Church on West Church Street in Frederick for almost 38 years, died. He was born near Clear Spring in Washington County on January 14, 1805. On March 31, 1921, an association was formed to erect a memorial to Frederick County men and women who served in World War I. The meeting was held at the Y. M. C. A. at the southeast corner of West Church Street and North Court Street in Frederick. Hammond Urner was elected president of the Frederick County Memorial Association.
