    3. On March 27, 1887, Catherine Thomas Artz, who left a trust for the establishment of the C. Burr Artz Library in memory of her husband, died in Chicago. She was a native of Frederick. Her husband made his fortune in the Chicago real estate market. On March 27, 1913, Clifford Holland, grandfather of William O. Lee Jr., who would become a Frederick City alderman, opened the Free Colored Men's Library on Ice Street in Frederick.
