On October 8, 1758, The Moravian Church, then called "Die Gemeindes in Manakasy," at Graceham was organized. On October 8, 1762, Michael Peck was hanged in Frederick for the murder of George Jacob Poe. On October 8, 1871, John Belt, of Adamstown, who was shot during an altercation with Dr. Jacob Thomas on October 2, died at his home. Dr. Thomas was eventually convicted of manslaughter in March 1873. On October 8, 1900, the owners of The McMurray Packing Company announced they would be closing their plant in Frederick in the spring of 1901 and moving to Appleton, Wisconsin. The reason given was the reduced cost of corn for packing in Wisconsin.
