On December 9, 1920, Jacob Rosenstock, a prominent Frederick merchant and president of The Frederick City Packing Company, died at his residence near the Monocacy River, east of town. On December 9, 1974, Pope Paul VI completed the formal process for naming Mother Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton as the United States' first native-born saint of The Roman Catholic Church.
