This is a fascinating document. Thank you Alan. Like many people of my generation I was taught that Maryland was the first Catholic Colony. I never really thought about that "fact" until very recently. One day a year ago or so I came across a pledge made by a Keedy ancestor in Frederick County. It surprised me for he essentially took a pledge that denounced Catholicism. Now, I knew that the Keedy family was not Catholic but the existence of such a practice in Maryland surprised me because I thought Maryland was a Catholic colony. So thank you for such a thought provoking article Alan. I'm halfway through it and find the author's arguments not only rational but totally realistic within the known history of the times.
