On December 15, 1796, Brigadier General James Wilkinson, who would be court-martialed in Frederick in 1811, became commanding general of all U. S. Army forces upon the death of General Anthony Wayne, who died on this date. On December 15, 1858, Major Samuel Barnes, founder of The Examiner, died. He was born February 20, 1788, in Kent County. On December 15, 1953, the last steam engine train left Brunswick, ending the Boontown era for this southern Frederick County town.
