    3. On January 8, 1847, Clarence C. Carty, founder of Carty's Furniture Store and The Carty Funeral Home, and the first treasurer of Frederick Brick Works, was born in Frederick. His furniture store at 48 East Patrick Street, in Frederick, now the home of The National Museum of Civil War Medicine, closed July 19, 1978. On January 8, 1860, John Nelson, son of Revolutionary War hero General Roger Nelson, and a former congressman and Attorney General of The United States, died in Baltimore. He was born June 1, 1791, in Frederick. On January 8, 1923, the Francis Scott Key Hotel in downtown Frederick opened. On January 8, 1993, Daniel H. Weinberg, prominent Frederick businessman and philanthropist, died at his Braddock Heights home. He was 83.
