He was a master shoemaker and belonged to the Evangelical Reformed Church, Frederick, MD. By 1755 Frederick was the most populated county in the state of Maryland. Bernard Kessler was the original lot holder for Lot 116 located on Second Street, which was across from the lots of Peter Butler. George Bernhard Kessler served under captain Butler for 34 days. Per land record dated December 15, 1777. George Bernard Kessler sold unto Peter Kemp for the sum of Forty-two pounds current money part of Lot 116. On November 9, 1790, Land Record WR17-390, George Bernard Kessler sold another portion of Lot 116 situated in Frederick Town to Ludwick Melzheimer for the sum of One hundred Seventy pounds current money. In Land Record WR10-388 dated December 3, 1791, George Bernard Kessler Sr sold to George Bernard Kessler Jr for the sum of One hundred Two pounds current money, all remaining and unsold part Lot 116 on Second Street, including buildings, fences, and improvements. Land Record JS-36, dated July 18, 1831, states that George Kessler sold unto Jacob Kessler for the sum of Twenty-five dollars, "Abners Choice." There were many other Kessler's that lived in and around Frederick Town as it was a booming area for it's day. Frederick muster rolls ca. 1757. I have a paper that looks to say “Mar 13th 1767 Thirty-four shillings for Bernard Kesler allowance on Peter Butlers Muster Roll” shows that he may have fought in the French and Indian War. If you have this family I would love to hear from you.
