    3. On August 31, 1712, John Thomas Schley, who built the first house in Frederick Town, was born in Mortzheim, Germany. He was a school teacher and church leader in Frederick. On August 31, 1784, John Frederick Amelung and 68 workmen and their families arrived in Baltimore aboard the brig "Fame," after a four month voyage from Bremen, Germany. These people built and operated Amelung's New Bremen Glassworks near Park Mills in Frederick County. They produced some of the finest glassware in the new United States following the Revolutionary War. On August 31, 2007, John E. "Jack" Molesworth, the former executive director of the Maryland Secondary Schools Athletic Association, former head football coach and athletic director at Frederick High and Governor Thomas Johnson High and Western Maryland College, died in Frederick following a fall in which he broke his neck.
