On January 15, 1883, William Nelson Pendleton, former rector of All Saints Episcopal Church, and a general in the Confederate Army, died in Lexington, VA. He also designed an East Patrick Street bridge that replaced one destroyed by a Carroll Creek flood in October 1847. The bridge was used until 1926. On January 15, 1903, a special five-car train left Frederick, taking the members of the Society of Jesus from its Frederick Novitiate to a new one on the Hudson River in New York State, ending 150 years of their work in Frederick. On January 15, 1908, The Peoples Fire Insurance Company of Frederick began doing business. It had been incorporated on December 10, 1907. On January 15, 1977, President Gerald R. Ford visited Camp David just days before his presidency ended.
