    3. the first governor of Maryland, nominated George Washington as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army. On June 15, 1863, an Emmitsburg fire, which began in Beam and Guthrie's livery stable, destroyed many houses in the center of town. On June 15, 1995, John V. Atanasoff, who is credited with the invention of the computer, died of a stroke. He was born October 4, 1903, in Hamilton, N. Y., and lived the last three decades of his life on a farm near New Market. He was buried in Mount Airy MD. On June 15, 2007, Justice Stephen G. Breyer, of the United States Supreme Court, spoke in Frederick on behalf of the effort of The Historical Society of Frederick to restore and maintain the home of former Chief Justice Roger Brooke Taney on South Bentz Street.
