On July 31, 1860, repairs to the steeple of The Evangelical Reformed Church on West Church Street in Frederick were completed. Repairs to the town clock in the steeple were completed in November. On July 31, 1913, the Frederick Mayor and Board of Aldermen voted to eliminate standing teams and hitching posts on Market Street between South and Fifth Streets, and on Patrick Street from Middle Alley to Court Streets on Saturdays. On July 31, 1929, Deputy Sheriff Clyde L. Hauver was shot and killed during a raid on an illegal still six miles west of Thurmont. Charles Lewis, of Thurmont, and Leslie Clark, of Hagerstown, were convicted January 13, 1930, of the crime. Hauver remains even today as the only deputy sheriff killed in the line of duty in Frederick County. 2. Richard Folkerth
    3. JOHN BARRETT & JANE KINGERY I checked my database for the names you mentioned and found no matches. But I know of two Engle websites, dealing with different Engle families in America. The descriptions below are taken from the websites. If you like you can follow the links on each site to contact the creators and try to establish a connection with your families. My Engle line appears to connect with the Engles collected in the second site. I hope the URLs are current ... DICK FOLKERTH #1 www.englefamily.net An Engle Family website has been established to explore the history of the family of Ulrich Engel (b.1711) and Anna Brächbühl Engel (b.1715), who immigrated from the Bishopric of Basel, Switzerland, to Donegal Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in 1754 as part of William Penn's experiment in religious freedom. Ulrich Engel's son, Jacob Engel (b.1754), along with his brother Hans (b.1745), were among the founding fathers of the River Brethren movement, which combined elements of pietism with Anabaptism. It survives today as three separate denominations -- the Old Order River Brethren, United Zion's Children, and the Brethren in Christ. #2 Then, on the other hand, there is www.engle-family.org This site covers the Engels family history in Solingen Germany from Caspar Engels I in 1646 until the family immigrated to France in 1730 at the inducement of the French government because of their skills in forging metal. They were members of the Reformed Protestant Church. The site also includes the two brothers and one sister who immigrated to America in 1754 and their descendants. The brothers Peter Engels, Sr., and Johann Peter, Sr., along with their sister Maria Catharina Dellenbach and their families arrived on two separate ships in Philadelphia in the Fall of 1754. A third brother Clemens, remained in Alsace Province as a cutler.

    3. DORINDA SHEPLEY & RICHARD WEBER Thanks to both of you for replying. I find it likely that John Renner's wife, named Lettitia, was confused with Daniel Renner's wife Lidia when the clerk originally copied the work ... or when the courthouse records were abstacted to publish the book. So far as I am concerned, we can let the matter lie at this point, because my belief has been strengthened that this is my ancestor, Peter Engle, who was mentioned in the abstract ... since he is otherwise known to be associated with John and Jacob Renner. 2. Dick Folkerth, In your ENGLE line, do you have a man [possible first name of Solomon] who married Barbara MEASEL [various spellings] in MD and moved to Ohio before 1840? They had a daughter named Elizabeth. Thanks, Jane Richard Folkerth <folkerth1@sbcglobal.net> wrote: Re: [MDFR] HEFFNER/HAFFNER, JULIAN, BARTGIS, NAYLOR, ENGLE, RENNER DORINDA Thanks for posting this. It will help me locate the land of my Engle ancestors. But there is one thing ... the abstract mentions John Renner and his wife Lydia. This particular name combination puzzles me. I know of a John and Jacob Renner in this area at about this time; they were the sons of another John Renner (died ca 1798) and his wife Mary (maybe Mary Wine). I also know of another brother in this family named Daniel Renner ... who had a wife named Lydia. The thing that puzzles me is the coincidence that brothers John and Daniel both had wives name Lydia ... since the name Lydia is not all that common. Would it be possible for you to check the abstract book to confirm that Lydia is named as the wife of John Renner ?? I included snippets of the abstract below to put this question in context. 3. I rechecked and at the bottom of the deed, it says Lidia, w/o John Renner.... Land indenture dated 28 Sep 1816 from John and Jacob RENNER to Jacob HEFFNER, s/o Jacob Frederick HEFFNER. I have seen errors before in the names as they copied the data into the book. Possibly getting a copy of the deed for comparison would help. I'm not going to the courthouse anytime soon, but perhaps somebody on this list is and could check it out for you.
