    3. I believe some of the names were incorrect. These records are missing comas and it makes it difficult to determine if it's Ann and Agnes or Ann Agnes; so, in rereading it, I think this may be more accurate. 1. [MDFR] PROPERTY NAMES - LOCATING PROPERTIES IN FREDERICK COUNTY
    2. george russell
    3. Most of the names pertain to names of farms, rather than to places. Exception: "Dowden's Branch" refers to a small tributary stream. The earliest maps 1808 Bond, 1858 Varle, and 1873 Titus show major property owners' names, but not the names of tracts. See the Frederick County Maryland Genealogical Research Guide (New Market, Md.: Catoctin Press, 1987) for details regarding maps. In order to determine the approximate location of a man's property, find out in which "hundred," "manor," or "district" he resided within the county. This information can be derived from real property tax lists, rent rolls, and debt books. in which land owners are listed by subdivision. See the Guide for more information on these types of lists. For obtaining a more precise location of a specific named tract you may obtain the location description as stated in the land deed and/or the original land patent record. This will describe adjoining property owners, waterways, and landmarks. For example: Harbin's Lott in Frederick County was patented to Joshua Harbin in 1752 and enlarged in 1754, and 90-acre Drought was patented to James Harbin in 1759. The respective certificates of survey should describe the locations. For a list of the churches in each locality, see the Guide. The book is available for $16 from Catoctin Press, P O Box 505, New Market MD 21774-0505. Keep in mind that the Frederick County of the 1760s covered a much larger area then than it does now. 1. [MDFR] List Netiquette
    2. Dorinda Shepley
    3. I hope to soon be sending more abstracts of the Equity records through the list soon and other data I may find. As a list admin, it is my duty to once a year send a few reminders of list netiquette and may assist any of our new subscribers. Remember when sending a Reply to the list - - Delete all of the lines from the original message except for those pertinent to the response. ALL of our postings are archived and we don't want to waste the server space with duplicates of previous messages. - When responding to ONE person, remember to change the 'send to' email address to that person's email BEFORE clinking Send so it doesn't go to the whole list. Messages intended for one particular person (such as thank yous, requests for lookups, etc) should be sent to only that person and not to all 700 people on the list. If it is something you wish to share with the whole list, then send it to the list. - And, last but not least - say it nicely - never send "flame" or negative messages or "opinion" messages which might start a "flame riot". Remember, ALL the messages are archived, so what you say is saved for all the world to see. - Dorinda Shepley - Dorinda@MidMdRoots.com www.MidMdRoots.com

    3. On October 3, 1778, a ferry was authorized to begin operations between Loudoun County, VA, and Berlin (Brunswick). The fare was 8 pence. On October 3, 1789, Alexander Contee Hanson, son of John Hanson, the first "president of The United States in Congress Assembled under the Articles of Confederation," was appointed Chancellor of Maryland, succeeding John Rogers. He held the post until January 11, 1806, when he died. On October 3, 1822, Father Francis Maleve, who oversaw the construction of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church on Carrollton Manor in 1811, while serving as rector of St. John The Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Frederick, died. He was born December 1, 1770, in Russia. On October 3, 1825, John Alexander Lynch, who would serve 30 years on the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court bench, was born near Jefferson. He died January 31, 1904, at his West Second Street home. On October 3, 1894, William Pickney Maulsby, retired judge of the Frederick County Circuit Court, died at his Westminster home. He was born July 10, 1815, in Harford County. On October 3, 1976, the Reverend Paul L. Althouse, pastor of The Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ on West Church Street for 30 years, retired after conducting Sunday services. On October 3, 1991, Ballenger Creek and Spring Ridge Elementary Schools were closed to allow workmen to make essential repairs as shoddy construction concerns about the two schools continued. Both new schools had opened in September, but concerns about the masonry construction force the Board of Education to take this action. 2. Hi Folks, In regard to the message (was it this list?) about Kreutz Creek, I deleted the message, so I don't know if you already have this information, but I read a listing for a book in Heritage Book/WillowBend Books Winter 2006 online catalog, "History of the Kreutz Creek Charge of the Reformed Church," by Walter E. Garrett (!924) 2002, on page 55. The book is abt 5 x 8 in., paper, indexed, 286 pages, #G1755. The book is listed with other York County, PA books. It contains a detailed history beginning in 1729, covering Reformed and Lutheran churches and their ministers. It contains tombstone info from Kreutz Creek and Canadochly cemeteries in York County, PA. Valerie
