    1. [MDFR] Death Certs online
    2. rayfri
    3. This news release was just sent out today..... In case anyone has Utah ancestors.. SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH—FamilySearch™, in conjunction with the Genealogical Society of Utah and the Utah State Archives and Records Service announced today that the state’s free online index to death certificates is now linked to original images of the historic documents. The integration of the index with free digital pictures of the death certificates issued from 1905 to 1954 by the state will open doors to additional information for family historians and genealogists with Utah ties. To search the index and view the certificates, users need to go to http://historyresearch.utah.gov/indexes/index.html. The online index to 250,000+ Utah deaths was created by the State Office of Vital Records and Statistics and has searchable information limited to the name of the deceased person, their date of death, sex, and where they died. The Utah State Archives turned to FamilySearch to help them get the digital images online. FamilySearch digitized the images and provided the technology to link the images of the certificates to the state’s online index. The linking process was completed incredibly fast for a project of this nature and magnitude—a few weeks. The names of Utah’s deceased are now very much alive, searchable, and viewable online—and for free. “There is so much more information of family history importance that can be found on the certificate itself,” said Glen Fairclough, processing and reference archivist for the Utah State Archives. Before making the certificates viewable online, Fairclough said patrons had to order copies through the mail for a fee or visit the state archives office in person. “The value of viewing the image of the original death certificate is that it saves you time, money, and provides rich genealogy data for the family historian,” said Paul Nauta, manager of public affairs for FamilySearch. Captured on a death certificate are the names and birth places of the deceased person’s parents, place and date of the decedent’s birth, marital status, occupation, permanent residence, place and date of burial, time of death, chief cause and contributory factors of death, and if applicable, where illness was contracted and the duration of the illness. The user merely needs to type in an ancestor’s name that died in Utah between 1905 to 1954, and they will be directed to a brief summary of the ancestor’s death certificate with a link to view the original image. Users need to simply click on the certificate image to see a larger, high quality view of the original death certificate. For more information about the FamilySearch digital image linking technology or services, record custodians should contact Brad Wilkes, wilkeswb@ldschurch.org. FamilySearch is a nonprofit affiliate of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It maintains the world’s largest repository of genealogical resources with vital records from over 110 countries, territories and possessions. FamilySearch promotes family history (genealogical) preservation and access efforts through the services of FamilySearch.org, the Genealogical Society of Utah, the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, and over 4,500 family history centers in 70 countries.

He did this from a small stone building in Mechanicstown (Thurmont). He also donated the land for the first United Brethren Church in Mechanicstown. He died June 6, 1846. On January 25, 1927, Professor George Edward Smith, three times mayor of Frederick, an Orphans' Court Judge, and a Register of Wills, died in his Frederick County Courthouse office. He was born November 11, 1850, on a Washington County farm. 1. Re: [MDFR] Kramer-Devilbiss
    2. Hi! The Kramer/Krammer/Cramer family were German Reformed. When they are found in a Lutheran book it is usually only as witnesses. The Devilbiss family is also Reformed. Johannes and Anna Margaret were married by the Rev.Philip William Otterbien as per the Records of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Frederick on the same day that Georg Kramer married Maria Magdalena Holtz. (May 8, 1763) Keep in mind that Glade Reformed Church Records don't begin until 1769- and yet they probably formed in the 1750s with the ministers visiting from Frederick. The Kramers and the Devilbiss owned land on the other side of the Monocacy River-in the Glade. (in fact the reason I knew to look at the Glade Church was because a Cramer attended the UCC church I worked for in Baltimore-and she had graduated from Frederick High School in 1924 with Pop- but she was from the "country" and attended Glade Reformed.) >From Maryland German Church Records, Volume 16(Glade Reformed Church, Walkersville, Frederick County, MD 1769-1836)translated by Frederick S.Weiser: Communion List, 8 July 1770 (this list includes many names- I have chosen a few) George Teubelbiss, Jacob Kramer, Johannes Taubelbiss,Anna Margartha Taubelbiss, Peter Kramer. This book also contains baptismal records for the grandchildren of Johannes and Margaret. Son John and wife Mary's children Adam, Catharina, Anna Maria, Maria, etc. Please e-mail me if you need any of this info- not sure which child of Johannes and Margaret you are looking into. >From "Names in Stone"by Holdcraft: Devilbiss, John s/o John and Margaret 13 March 1776-20 June 1822(Walkersville, Glade Reformed Cemetary) wife Mary died 15 February 1832, age 46. Frederick Co, Maryland - Equity Court Abstracts - JS-11 25-34 - AMBROSE, LIDGE, SHOVER, ROUZER, WELLER, SLAVES - May 1833 William COVER, Jacob LIDGE and w/ Catharine vs Daniel ROUZER Henry AMBROSE d/ Mar 1832 intestate, leaving only child, -Catharine w/o Jacob LIDGE - Wayne Co, Ohio Land - "Good Neighbor Resurveyed", 59+ acres Henry was the eldest son and only heir of Jacob AMBROSE who also died intestate, sometime before 1779. That same year, Henry conveyed "Good Neighbor", 486 acres; "Centre Bit", 12 acres; and "Charming Beauty", 25 acres; all to Ludwick KEMP. After the death of Ludwick and Catharine AMBROSE, the widow of Jacob, the heirs of Kemp sold the estate for $4,100 to Peter SHOVER and John HARBAUGH (who conveyed his interest to Shover). Henry was still due monies so Shover and Henry divided the land and both occupied it, 59 acres being Henry's share, but no deed was ever made. Daniel ROUZER, as exec/of Shover, sold all the property, including these 59 acres to William COVER. The Lidges want to allow the sale with clear title to Cover but want the share they feel was due them through her father. According to Shover's will, he had interpreted that Henry was to have a life estate and Henry lived on the land until moving west in 1823. The land indenture in 1779 from Henry to Kemp lists lands and mills; the widow Catharine releasing her dower rights with provision she have a life estate. Eight acres were to be laid off for the widow; adjoined lands of Davault RUMBLEN, dec'd. Executors were wife and brother, Joseph MATHIAS. Witnesses: Joseph COCKEY, George MATHIAS, Adam BORNE, J. COCKEY. In 1831, Margaret's share was sold to George GILL/GITT (of Hanover Borough, York Co, PA) at Sheriff's sale to pay Alwood's debts. That same year, John mortgaged his interest to Magdalena RINEHART, paid it, then again mortgaged it to John Henry HOPPE. Land - "Ohio", 22 acres, from William OWINGS (executor and devisee of Samuel OWINGS of Baltimore County), where John ESTERLINE now lives. - also "Gotham" and "Palentine" The sheriff was unable to find the widow to serve her a summons. Trustee was John H. HOPPE; on 21 Feb 1833, sale made to Jacob EVERHART and George MATHIAS Jr. at $2,276.64; but Everhart agreed for Samuel W. MEYERS to replace him as one of the buyers. MEYERS' part was 175+ acres; George MATHIAS Jr.'s part was 42+ acres. On 11 Sep 1834, Adam BISH testified Jacob RUMBER was 40 years old and not very harty; he was allowed 3/8 of Elizabeth's share, $110.57. Jacob's widow, Elizabeth, was allowed 1/3 of 1/7, $99.78. Each 1/7 share was $299.36. The Alwood's share is being held in litigation as the deed to Gill/Gitt was done in PA and amount was grossly low. Finalized 23 May 1835. =============== - Dorinda Shepley MidMdRoots.com _________________________________________________________________ Valentine’s Day -- Shop for gifts that spell L-O-V-E at MSN Shopping http://shopping.msn.com/content/shp/?ctId=8323,ptnrid=37,ptnrdata=24095&tcode=wlmtagline

    1. Re: [MDFR] middletown zion lutheran
    2. Bob Wissinger
    3. Jay, I'm not sure if we discussed this already or not, but here's what I know about this church: My ancestor, Johann Ludwig WISSINGER and his wife Catherine were of the Protestant faith and in 1750, Johann and his friends built a crude log structure for their church in the Middletown area, Md. This building was used by the Lutheran and Reformed congregations until 1783 when the group disbanded. In 1771, the Lutherans purchased an acre of land from Conrad CRONE and in 1773, they built a sexangular log structure for their church. This building was used until 1814 at which time they built a brick structure replacing it in 1859 with a larger brick structure, which is still standing, and in use today. This building was also used by the government as a lookout and hospital during the Civil War. This church is the Lutheran Congregation of Zion Church of Middletown, Md. On March 20, 1771, a deed was signed by Conrad Crone for a parcel of ground in Middletown giving it to the trustees of a Lutheran church to be built on the site. On September 24, 1815, the second Lutheran Church in Middletown was dedicated. It was built on the same site as the first church which was on a lot sold to the church in 1771 by Conrad Crone. The third church replaced this one on the same site in 1860. >From what I understand, there are/were three churches in Middletown in these early days: * Evangelical and Reformed Church (originally the Monocacy Lutheran Congregation), founded in 1737, * Zion Lutheran Church, started in 1750 as described above, * Christ Reformed Church, aka the German Reformed Church (a congregation of the United Church of Christ), founded in 1770. For your reference and researching, I found some records for the Lutheran Congregation of Zion Church, Middletown, Md. at the LDS library on microfilm - Church Record of the Lutheran Congregation of Zion Church at Middletown, near Frederick, Md. translated by Charles T. Zahn (this multi-volume reference contains Baptismal, Marriage, and Death records, Communicant and Confirmation lists and other notes. These records starting 1779 and are translated from the original German manuscript by Charles T. Zahn, 1934. Unfortunately, records before 1770 for the Zion Church including the early log church are believe to have been lost or destroyed. For a complete listing of transcribed records, see the LDS catalog at <http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp>, select PLACE SEARCH, enter Place = Middletown and Part of = maryland, Select <Maryland, Frederick, Middletown>, select <Maryland, Frederick, Middletown - Church records>. Note, there is a listing for the Transcript of church records, 1746-1887 [Evangelical Lutheran], but I have not seen these records yet. These would be the oldest known records for the churches of Middletown. I hope this helps and good luck with your search, Bob Wissinger Researching the Wissinger's of Frederick Co., Md. -----Original Message----- From: mdfreder-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdfreder-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of jay cline Sent: Saturday, January 20, 2007 10:48 AM To: fred co.list Subject: [MDFR] middletown zion lutheran hello all.. a conversation has been going on and i beleive it may have been off list so please let me summarize. it has been said that prior to the building of the zion lutheran church in middletown there was a country church in the area which was a "union" church used by both the lutheran and the reformed church people of the middletown valley area. it was reported to have been a log building.. when the churches of middletown were built and church books begun there were added to those books records from the country union church as remembered. these records are supposed to be included in the German Church Records Volume II i beleive there are but two pages .. does anyone have Volume II ? to do a look-up for Klein/ Kline/Cline ? thanks again as always jay cline -------------------------------------------- My mailbox is spam-free with ChoiceMail, the leader in personal and corporate anti-spam solutions. 2. Does anyone have any information regarding the Kramer line in Frederick, MD in the 1700s? The only thing I have is a Margaret Kramer (Margaretha Kramer), born ca 1747, probably in Frederick, MD; married John Devilbiss (Johannes Teufferbach) 08 May 1763; died ca 1816, Frederick, MD. I believe that they belonged to the Frederick Reform Church. This line has been a real dead-end to me. Thank you for any help. Linda

    3. hello all.. a conversation has been going on and i beleive it may have been off list so please let me summarize. it has been said that prior to the building of the zion lutheran church in middletown there was a country church in the area which was a "union" church used by both the lutheran and the reformed church people of the middletown valley area. it was reported to have been a log building.. when the churches of middletown were built and church books begun there were added to those books records from the country union church as remembered. these records are supposed to be included in the German Church Records Volume II i beleive there are but two pages .. does anyone have Volume II ? to do a look-up for Klein/ Kline/Cline ? thanks again as always jay cline --------------------------------- Food fight?
