    2. John Ashbury
    3. On February 11, 1775, Dr. John Baltzell was born. He built the mansion on East Church Street which is today the home of The Historical Society of Frederick County. He died September 7, 1854. On February 11, 1916, Glen W. Eyler, after whom the American Legion Post in Woodsboro is named, was born at Daysville. Known as "Pappy," Eyler was killed on February 23, 1945, while serving in the U.S. Army in Germany. On February 11, 1952, the Frederick City Board of Aldermen unanimously approved Frederick native and Maryland State Policeman Charles Victor Main as Chief of Police. He began his duties March 17. On February 11, 1983, snow began falling just after midnight and blanketed Frederick County. When it stopped between 28 and 36 inches had fallen and paralyzed the county. The previous record occurred February 12, 1899, when 18 inches fell. On February 11, 1986, District Court Judge Mary Ann Stepler was elevated to the Frederick County Circuit Court by Maryland Governor Harry Hughes, becoming the first woman on that court. One tract is said to be 5 miles north of Frederick Town and lies on Big Tuscaroras Creek; another is on Muddy Run Branch. Administrator was Michael HEFFNER. Testimony heard from Joseph HILDEBRAND, age 68; said he has lived near Frederick HEFFNER for the past 50 years or more and Lawrence HEFFNER has been dead about 55 years or more and Frederick was his only son who has had the land ever since his father died. Trustee was W.H. DAINGERFIELD; since all of the heirs except Elizabeth had already sold their interests to John MORGAN for $1,200, private sale was made to John MORGAN at $400, being better than could be achieved at a public auction. The 1/7 due to daughter Elizabeth and George HEFFNER was $184.13; Morgan received the other 6/7; finalized 5 May 1836. 1. [MDFR] Valentine Dennis
    2. Jim Bartholomew
    3. In 1798, a Valentine Dennis sold 120 acres, called Hard Fortune, being part of a tract of land called Resurvey on Parks Hall. On the same date, he buys 14 acres for he and his wife to live on until their death. (Have read one listing, no contact person, that says wife was named Barberry.) This 14 acres is called Dennis Reserve, being part of Hard Fortune, being part of Parks Hall. I think this land is in an area south of Boonsboro and around Keedyville. Does anyone connect to this Valentine? In particular, I'd like to know if he had a daughter named Margaret who married a Yost Smith. Thanks, Jim

    3. I noticed the ged you have at gencircles Dorinda, that has the Kinna family in it. The Baker and Kinna family tied by marriage, so I am researching it. I wondered if you had any updated information or perhaps some contacts regarding that branch please? Your twig starts (I believe) at Annie C. Shepley marrying William Elmer Kinna, s/o David E. and Mahala Fisher Kinna. This David is the s/o William and Sarah Ellen Phelps/Phillips Kinna, William being the s/o David and Elizabeth Kird Kinna. My twig (going in the opposite direction now, lol) comes from William's brother, Samuel and Susanna Poffenberger Kinna. Their child Samuel J. and his wife Alice Green Kinna bore Rosa Clara Kinna who married Charles Edward Baker. Charles Edward Baker is the s/o Lewis Napoleon and Sarah Elizabeth Harshman Baker, who in turn is the s/o Ezra Caleb Baker Sr and his second wife Amanda Catherine DeLauder/DeLauter. Ezra Sr is the s/o John and Nancy Ann Moser (Baker is her 2nd marriage, 1st was Peter Leatherman) Baker. This John MAY be the s/o John and Hannah Leatherman Baker. Phew, hope I didn't leave anybody out there. Anyway, any advice, info, whatever would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Joyce Soden Brown Researching families in MD, PA, WV, VA: Baker, Dennis, Moser. 1. [MDFR] History Moment - 2-8-07
    2. John Ashbury
    3. On February 8, 1913, an announcement was made of plans to build a milk processing plant on West All Saints Street that would require the demolition of the tavern building where Col. George Washington and Benjamin Franklin met with British General Edward Braddock to plan the British assault on Fort Duquesne in 1755. It is not clear from the available records whether or not the three men met at the tavern together. It is known that Washington and Franklin did met with Braddock at the tavern, but current information is that it wasn't at the same time. If anyone can add information to these History Moments, or would like to suggest an item for another calendar day, please contact me privately. John W. Ashbury (wasps65@earthlink.net)
