List Members, Lately the list has been receiving many very large messages. Each message is archived on the servers at Rootsweb and as you can imagine this requires a great deal of storage space. The size limit for messages to this list is set at 50K. This is a pretty big message when sent in plain text. There are several things we all can do to reduce the size of the messages being sent. They are as follows; 1- Don't include the entire message that you are replying to in your reply. Most e-mail programs give you the option of sending the old message with the new or sending it without. If you don't want to change these settings then just please highlight and delete what is not neccessary in your reply. 2- Limit or reduce the size of taglines at the bottom of the e-mails 3- Always use plain text when sending messages to the list. 4- If you receive mail from the list in digest mode please reply forwarding only that portion of the digest which pertains directly to your reply. By doing these few things we can conserve server space and reduce the size of our own inbox. What most of you see here on the list is only the tip of the iceberg. I receive quite a few messages directed to me from the server which I regretibly must reject at times due to their size. I do not wish to stiffle the flow of information on the list. I don't want to wear out our welcome at Rootsweb by choking the servers with redundant information. Thanks in advance for your cooperation. Mark Keeper of the list
