I am trying to find information regarding the marriage of Dr. James Johnstone, b. ca 1660, Annandale, Scotland, and Mary Hanson. I assume they were married in Charles Co., MD. The author of the book I have referenced below states that he was buried in Charles Co., MD. Mary (Hanson) Johnston died 1769 in Fairfax Co., Virginia. Her will was proved in 1770. Dr. James Johnstone, Charles Co., Maryland is my ancestor. LDS Salt Lake City has a copy of a book, "Stapp and Allied Families", compiled by Jennie F. Downing Crow. Part 2 relates to Johnston & Related Families. Page 184, states that Dr. James Johnstone, an adherent of Lord Baltimore settled in Maryland in the latter part of the 17th century, from Annandale, Scotland. His second wife was Mary Hanson. One of their children, George Johnston, Sr., prominent lawyer in Alexandria, Fairfax Co., VA, 1st wife Margaret Thompson. She died about 1745. He married his second wife, Sarah McCarty about 1749. She is the daughter of Dennis McCarty and Sarah (Ball) McCarty. Is there anyone on this list researching this family? I really appreciate any information you can share. Thanks. Beverly
