A family member writes: "Thomas J. Grant was born in Baltimore in 1855 and when a young man he went to Charles County, where he taught school near Bryantown until 1885." I believe that Thomas J. Grant was a friend of Dr. Samuel Mudd. Thomas studied for the priesthood in Baltimore but left and eventually married. He was married in the 1880 census and is listed in the 6th election district.
