    1. [MDCHARLE] Grave of Jospeh Benidict Edelen?
    2. David Middleton Edelen II
    3. Thanks Norma, I will do that. What I was going to ask on the Pr. Georges board was if there were any Edelen descendents other than me around, and namely if any knew where my great great grandfather Joseph Benidict Edelen was buried. His parents and some of his children are buried in St. Mary's Church Graveyard in Piscataway, but he is not. And many other Edelens, Berrys, and some of my Middleton people are buried there as well. My Montgomery line, or people, are buried elsewhere, I think in Bryantown and in the Montgomery family plot in DC.. Anyway, Joseph was a Lieutenant in the "Washington Volunteers", a company in the 2nd Battalion Maryland Guard, part of Maryland's pre-Civil War militia. When Lincoln took over he suspended the writ of Habeas Corpus, whatever that is, and had all the pro-Southern Maryland legislatures arrested and held and put pro-Northern people in their place, declared Martial Law in Maryland and appointed a Gen Butler as miltary governor of Maryland. So when the Maryland Militia was disbanded Jos B. Edelen's company crossed the Potomac, joined the CS army at Alexandria or somewhere and became Co. "H" of the 7th Virginia Infantry. Their company was still known as the Washington Volunteers. Anyway, I have been told that, according to the Confederate pension records, that he was living in Fairfax, Va.. I thought that perhaps he did not want to go home, or had to for political reasons and settled in Fairfax. I just don't know. But if anyone has any info on Joseph Benidict Edelen, especially his last resting place, I would greatly appreciate it. He might be buried in some old Edelen family cemetery at some of the old home places. But I have no idea where any Edelen family cemeteries might be. I have a gut feeling that there are a good many old time family cemeteries in Southern Maryland that are now under concrete, asphalt, or lawns. Thanks, David Middleton Edelen II Alabama ----- Original Message ----- From: "Norma Lundgren" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, April 17, 2007 12:13 PM Subject: Re: [MDCHARLE] Pr George list? > It has been nearly dead for years. 1. [MDCHARLE] John Baptist Edelen
    2. Shirley Warren
    3. David, I found this in Mary Donnelly's "Charles County Maryland, My Colonial Ancestors, Plus Others", Page 201 : "Ann Helen Clements, the only child of Elizabeth Neale and Jacob Clements married John Baptist Edelen and was named as a sister in the will of her half-sister Elizabeth McAtee when she died in 1811." There is a John Baptist Montgomery. Found a Benjamin Montgomery b 1748, but no Benjamin Franklin. Peter Montgomery was born 1684 in France. He leased a tract of land near Bryantown from Joshua Guilbert. There is a list of the children of Richard Edelen II and Sarah Hagan if you need it. Shirley Warren (I think there are four Shirleys on this list)
