The Jane who married Richard Harrison wasn't Jane Wade -- in fact, Zachary didn't have a daughter Jane. Richard Harrison married Jane Delahay, d/o George and Susan Delahay. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, April 21, 2007 5:14 AM Subject: Re: [MDCHARLE] Zachary Wade >I have a Zachary/Zacharia Wade b. abt. 1627 , emigrated from Eng.1641; died >1677/78. > Will 3/5/1677; probated 5/25/1677. > Married Mary Hatton who died bef. 3/1677. > He may have been married more than once. > I have children: Jane, m. Here is a little something I've put together from number a number of various sources. Hope I haven't got people mixed up. Zachary Wade was born about 1627 in probably Warwickshire, England. He died in 1678. Zachary Wade settled in Maryland in 1641 as a servant of Mistress Margaret Brent. He was employed by Col. Giles Brent at Kent Fort Manor on Kent Island, Maryland. He remained on the island after the Brents were ejected in a land dispute by Col. Robert Claiborne in 1644 and then returned to the Brent's service after Claiborne was ejected in his turn in 1647. Wade's Point, on Eastern Bay, below Claiborne, is so called from its first owner Zachary Wade, one of Claiborne's Kent Island colonists, who crossed over from Kent Island to Talbot in 1758 and took up a tract of 400 acres (1.6 km2) upon which he settled. He later lived at Newton, St. Mary's County and served as Margaret Brent's steward at St. Gabriel Manor in St. Mary's County. He was settled by 1661 on land near the mouth of the Pomonkey Creek in Charles County that he bought from Winganatto, King of the Nanjemoys. He became a lawyer. He was a member of the Maryland Assembly and served as sheriff and justice of Charles County. He was sent by the Assembly on a mission by ship, probably to Virginia, to procure a copy of the statutes of England. He held more tha 5,100 acres of land in Queen Anne's, Talbot, Charles, and Prince George's County. He was married to Mary Hatton. Cheers, Michael Kent Island, Maryland
Very well done! Zachary Wade is one of my immigrant ancestors. ----- Original Message ----- From: "D Michael Johnson" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, April 21, 2007 5:00 PM Subject: Re: [MDCHARLE] Zachary Wade > Here is a little something I've put together from number a number of various > sources. A couple of minor things and a question. The dispute at Kent Island would have involved William Claiborne, not Robert Claiborne. "He later lived at Newton, St. Mary's County....." That should read "He later lived at Newtown, St. Mary's County....." Now for the question. Does anyone know how Zachary Wade was related to Dr. John Wade? I'm thinking nephew, but don't know. Will of Dr. John Wade (no County stated) probated 9/4/1658. Son, Edward all property belonging to testator and his wife Mary which was given them by Edward Attkins of Chilveronton in Warwickshire by will or deed of gift. Daughter: Mary personal estate which is to be paid testator at the death of Nicholas Hoskins and his wife Elizabeth the bond of which money is in the hands of John Wade of Chilveronton. Son: John Wade, son of Ann Smith, who formerly lived with testator in MD, personal estate in the event of death of dau. Mary during minority. Said personal estate to pass in turn to son Edward afsd. and to Ann Smith afsd. and then to children of my brother, William Wade in Cecil, Warwickshire. To: Ann Smith and children afsd. of testator, residue of estate real and personal, equally. William Wright, Zachariah Wade, John Harwood, and James Johnson to have property until coming of Ann Smith. Exec: Zachariah Wade. Wit: Edmund Brent, William Backhous.
