Dear List, As you know, I continue to search for family of Alexander McConchie of Fauquier Co., VA. Most information points to MD but not found connecting thread. There are so many names from MD that show up in Fauquier and Culpeper that surround McConchie and associated lines. (Dent, Knox, Harrison, Berry, Beale, Fendal, Fowke, Jones, Groves, etc.) I have Mary "Margaret" McConchie daughter of Alexander McConchie and Catherine Martin who married Elijah F. Groves, 9 Sept. 1868. Elijah F. Groves son of Armistead W. Groves and Emily Finks if anyone knows about Groves?) In my digging, I happened to notice name Thomas Skinner as neighbor of Stigler and McConchie land in Fauquier. We know that a George Dent and John Knox sold land to Alexander in Fauquier. I have no idea who Alexander's wife "Ann" was but have to check out every surname of associated families of McConchie. Alexander McConchie's son Robert married Mary Ann King. Their son Robert King McConcihe married Elizabeth "Betsy" Stigler. James Stigler was her father. They were parents of my gg grandfather, George W. McConchie. Note on Fauquier records below name Thomas Skinner and I found that name in MD on will of Elizabeth Howard. Then note that her will also has the name Benjamin Douglass spelled with one "s" in one place and two "s's" in last. We've got land record with Douglas right there with our family lines. Elizabeth Howard/CC MD Her will is listed in the Maryland Abstracts and was for 10/08/1716, page 7, Folio 96 is all I have. Elizabeth Howard bequeaths to 1. Elizabeth Howard--niece and goddaughter (daughter of eldest brother of William Stevens Howard) to have 1 silver spoon marked EH and 1 Bible and 1 gold ring with an inscription "prepair to follow IA" 2. Rebecca Dent--goddaughter (daughter of cousin George Dent) to have 1 silver spoon marked MH and 1 Bible 3. Ann Skinner--goddaughter (daughter of Thomas Skinner) - to have 1 Bible 4. Thomas Howard--brother--whereas he has been at considerable expense and charges during testatrix's maintenance both in time of health and in "my many afflictions by sickness" and in that respect has been "both in the place of a father as well as a brother" and for her natural love and affection she leaves the remainder of the estate to her nephew Thomas--son of Thomas--and also names him executor of the will Witnesses: Benjamin Douglass John Groves Ann Dent John Scrogin Edward Gardiner (mark) Then came: Benjamin Douglas, John Groves and Edward Gardiner Note: the testatrix signed the will in her own hand ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My family lines in Fauquier Co.,VA. (Seeing many familiar names that are MD names?) Order Book 1794 Madison Co. An allotment of hands to the several roads between Barrett's road and Kirtley's road and the South River below Elk Run being returned as follows, to wit: Under James Walker Jr. on the road from Wm. Walker's mill to Blunt's path the hands of Wm. Walker Sr., James Walker Jr. Alexander Bradford, John Bradford, John Breedlove, Mary Walker and overseer Robt. Beale, Joshua Lindsey, Mary Rowback, David Cave, Leroy Cannady, James Kirk and Wm. Emmons. Notes for SAMUEL STIGLER: The family did not stay long in King George County but some moved to Culpepper and Faquier Counties of Virginia. We find that James and Martha conveyed to Samuel Stigler Eldeat son 60 acres of land (Deed book 4, King George County, Virginia) 5 April 1764 for and in consideration of the natural love and affection they have for Samuel Stigler. This was the upper part of the larger tract that James Stigler holds, land adjoining that of Thomas Skinner, Joseph Harrison, Robert Peck Jr. and Captain Joseph Strother as by a survey and plot made by Benjamin Berry. Martha, also listed is a statement of fact that this was a Deed of Gift. The following year 2 May 1765, Samuel and Sarah, his wife lease this land to Joseph Harrison for 5 shillings of lawful money of Great Britian, term one whole year to be compled and Joseph Harrison "Therefore yielding and paying unto said Samuel Stigler and Sarah, his wife, the rent of one Ear of Indian Corn upon the feast of St. Michael the Arch Angel if same shall be lawfully demanded to the true intent." (Would really like to find this Harrison line.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We've also got the name Douglas 5. Back on the record from Deed Book 17, p. 548, Dec. 28, 1809, Robert and Eliz. Knox of Charles Co., Maryland to James Emmons of Fauquier Co., Va for 113 pounds for 113 acres of and beginning at James (Emmons presume) land ...to Robert McConchies line...(Robert McConchie married to Mary Ann King) Deed Book 17 pg. 722 Sep. 21, 1810 Fauquier Co. Joseph and Elizabeth EMMONS to William Stone in consideration of the sum of $868.50 for a tract of land...to Ludwells line (now McConchie's Run)...to Downman's line... to Douglas' fence...containing 198 acres. Wit: John and Samuel Blackwell, Nathl. HOMES, George Kemper, and William JONES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I think I'm finding the Jones connection to my McConchie line and they appear to connect with the William R. Jones who was associated with Emmons. Have seen Fendall name in MD associated with MD McConchie and wondering about this Mary Fendall Jones? Additionally I'm seeing the Jones and Marshall names factoring into all this as well. JOHN T. JONES, apptd. by the last will and testament of William R. Jones, dec'd., gdn. of Mary Fendall Jones and William Turner Jones, orphs. of said William R. Jones, dec'd. 25 April 1859. For (So is this William Jones the one below on the Emmons land transation? I'm thinking he is and if so then we have a connection for Mary Fendall Jones . How was John T. Jones related to Charles S. Jones and Henry M. Jones? Were they all sons of William R. Jones? Charles S. Jones married Ann Childs who was daughter of James Childs and Milley McConchie (daughter of Alexander McConchie). $40,000. Set: John H. Rixey, Presley M. Rixey, Charles S. Jones. Henry M. Jones and Samuel Rixey, Jr. Does anyone see any of the Fauquier names connecting to a specific MD line? Thinking that's how I'll get lead to track Alexander McConchie and who his wife "Ann" unknown was? Open to any suggestions as to how to research. Thanks, Amanda
