Susanah Lomax leased (for 3 ears of corn per year) the tract of land known as "Promise" from James and Mary Cash via their representative Benjamin Posey on 12 February 1729/30. "Promise" was owned at some previous time by John Ralley and the land lay at the head of Popes Creek. The lease was to expire when Thomas Ashman, son of Mary Cash, reached the age of 21. James and Mary Cash lived in Westmoreland County in the Colony of Virginia at that time. [Court Records Charles County, MD, Book M, No. 2, p. 190/191] Does anyone know of possible associations among the Lomax, Ralley, Ashman, and Cash families? What happened next to the land "Promise"? Did Thomas Ashman inherit it, live there, or sell it? Any help would be appreciated. John B. Lomax ([email protected])
